I use priority mail so I got mine today. The cover is beyond awful for the normal edition. Seriously what gives Cave?

Gonna boot it up in a bit.

Arrange B is...interesting. I think I could really get into it if I could understand how it works. Only thing I can tell is that the rank seems to increase each time you finish a stage and start it again.

360 mode is great, just as I expected.

It's a little annoying that the Black Label/Ketsupatchi will cost so much but the Ketsui mode looks too good to pass up.

Does anyone have a link to how the gameplay/scoring works? This is my first experience with the game.

I think I get the idea of using beam to counter beam and hyper to overpower beam, but

-what is the point of bomb style? Strong style has bombs and better beam/shot?
-when using power style, why would you ever want to use normal? Boost seems waaaay stronger

I have no idea how any of the scoring worked but I saw lots and lots of point things raining down and it was awesome.

Haven't tried either of the arrange modes. Probably won't for a little while. Want to learn how to play the main game first so I actually notice the gameplay difference in the arranges :p

Seems like a great port.

My new DOJ high score!

Type B/Leinyan - 28,774,601 max hit 767 stage 1-4

Getting very good at 1-2 and 1-3 at this point :p

I bit the bullet with Deathsmiles IIX, shipped today.

Should be festive!

The backgrounds in DFK are still low resolution, correct?

yeah, it's just like the rest of Cave's ports. Looks pretty nice.

I got my copy today and played for a couple hours. I like how you're in hyper mode pretty much the entire time once you know what you're doing. Game's pure chaos.

First time getting to play DoDonPachi Dai-Fukkatsu and not surprisingly found it overwhelming and beautiful. I haven't read up the game mechanics yet, so that makes it even crazier (don't understand hyper mode for one). Not sure about the auto-bombing. Definitely a case of sensory overload, but it seems manageable - got just about to the level 4 boss on my second try, just winging it.

I've had DFK since Friday and I'm kinda ashamed that I haven't 1CC'd it yet. With Strong mode you have like 20 lives but I still screw up on dumb shit early on and then totally blow it on the lasers on stage 5. It's humiliating.

Game looks lovely. I'm feeling less apprehensive about the Black Label disc now that it's confirmed that it isn't an append disc. Also the Play-Asia Christmas coupons kinda take the sting out of the high price. Hopefully they put BL and PS/MMP up for pre-order before Christmas...

Oh hey, same here. I bought a copy off the amazon.jp marketplace a few days ago for a great price, though the agent fees and exchange rate spoiled the deal a bit. OH WELL. Still cheaper than Play-Asia, and I got the DLC card. For some reason I really wanted that DLC card, even though I will probably never listen to that remixed sound track. I probably shoulda just bought a used copy and saved a few more bucks.

Hopefully the game is good. Think it should get here by the end of the week.

Yeah, they love money. That's why they sell the games as $70-100 retail editions rather than $10 downloads.

Yeah, stage 5 is hard as fuck. Huge difficulty leap compared to the rest of the game. I almost had a 1-ALL a minute ago, but I got killed during the final pattern of the last boss. Gotta hit up training mode tomorrow and practice stage 5 some. Those lasers are pure rape.

Gonna ditch strong mode once I get that cheap 1-ALL though. Power mode is where it's at.

I'm super close to just buying the DFK limited now while my playasia christmas coupons are still good. I probably won't be able to afford a j360 for a while after this month.

edit: oopstoolate. bought.

look what you're doing to me gaf. :<

So there is no Arcade mode for DFK? I don't know much about the arcade hardware for Cave games so I don't know if this is an oversight or not.

The different ship modes are confusing the hell out of me as well. I need to read a FAQ.

There's no original resolution mode, no, but the 360 mode is apparently pretty damn accurate.

I should have this today. I got SnR DUO yesterday as an early Christmas gift. Deathsmiles IIX comes later this week or early next week.

Too many games, goddamn.

Still waiting on mine. Tomorrow hopefully. Anybody with the LE want to put up a photo of the box. The one in the pick-up thread is hard to tell how thick it is. Kinda curious if it is like the Mushi and DSIIX box or a different unique size like the DS LE.

Also, I've got a $7 off $50 and a $12 off $100 at Play-asia if anybody needs it to order a Cave product. PM me.

I'll take another pic when I get home, but it's about 1.5-2x the thickness of a standard 360 case.

That's exactly my experience so far (aside from getting the game yesterday). I'm actually a bit ashamed to admit I'm using the stock 360 pad since I don't have a stick yet, though I'm not sure how much better that will make me. Shmups in general are still a new thing for me in the last year or so.

amish,

Go for this one and you will be set for the generation:

Also a question about the new DoDonPachi...does it have the iPhone soundrack as an option?

Thanks for the tip! December's a light month for me purchase-wise, so I should be able to fit this in somewhere.

Edit: Not sure about the soundtrack, but I'll take a look at that too tonight. And speaking of soundtracks, I'm listening to the arrange album right now...so far, pretty good stuff in my opinion :).

A bit pricey but it is THE stick for 360 shooters. You'll wind up using it for a bunch of games, so the price per game is not bad. Incredibly sexy too. And they won't be around forever.

As promised, here's another pic of the DDP LE box...hopefully it gives a better sense of the depth:

Pickups046-1.jpg

Got my 1-ALL with the Type-B ship earlier (with strong mode). Game's pretty easy if you're just playing for survival. Guess I'll go back to power mode now, or maybe I'll try to clear the second loop with strong mode. Or maybe I'll spend some more time with Arrange A, B, and 1.51. Arrange A is a lot of fun. It's basically Dai Ou Jou mode for DFK, with slower bullets and less hypers and bullet canceling and such. Pretty fun. I only played Arrange B once. It's pretty interesting, but I'll wait until someone figures out what the hell is going on and posts a guide for it before I play too much more. I haven't even tried 1.51 yet. Too much to do!

Oh, and I love how you can take secret routes through the stages and fight the Dai Ou Jou bosses instead of the usual midboss. Awesome fanservice.

I don't see anything about alternate soundtracks in the port. There's just the typical sound options for adjusting sound effects, voice, and BGM and such.

I got the game, but I have to do some work from home.

fml.

And damn, is Strong that easy? I always heard it was intended to be an easy mode, but I had no clue how much easier it was supposed to make things. If it's too easy, I might want to skip it. I don't like spoiling things (don't even credit feed when I first try a game), I'm weird like that.

Strong mode has autobomb, and you get a whole lot of bombs. Every time you die, your maximum bomb stock increases by one, until you hit the cap of six. In my 1-all run, I didn't die until stage 5, since that's where things start to get a little hairy. So yeah it's pretty easy. About as hard as 1cc'ing Death Smiles, I'd say.

I don't know what to think yet, but I'm kinda shocked. Played one credit, got pretty damn far. I thought only the Strong mode had autobomb.

I really wasn't following this game. Funky.

why no OT for DFK?

is this sucker region free? i didnt love DOJ so i havent been following this release mcuh at all. sounds like people are enjoying it though.

Did you all get your orders from play-asia? I ordered ground from ncsx and it's not here yet.

The arrange modes look ridiculous.. just when you thought the arcade version was silly enough, the screen is just a flood of bullets and lasers and hyper cancel spam. It reminds me of a euroshmup where they barf bullets at you and you get a shield (hyper in this case) as a handicap to survive it instead of the developers having to design something theoretically dodgeable.

My mistake, yeah they're from the original DDP. It's been a while since I've played either game. :x

I got mine from NCSX. Since I live in Massachusetts (they're located in NY), the shipping is always lightning quick from them. I usually get packages the day after they ship, even with the cheapest option. Play-Asia has always been a little slow in my experience. I ordered Strike Witches from them over the weekend and I figure I won't have that until next week (no tracking number, so it's just a guess).

Actually, every mode has autobomb, but with power style your bomb stock is reduced to 1 and you don't get bombs when you die (you can get them only from bomb carriers).

I did some practice run and I discovered that even the hyper effect isn't always the same. Sometimes the cancelled bullets are added to the chain meter and sometimes they don't.

Got mine from a friend in HK. Well, not sure if he ordered from PA to ship on to me or got it locally. Either way, I'm hoping to have it by the weekend.

On the topic of PA, anyone else had any bother with the lately being really, really slow? Think I mentioned it before in a different thread but, using their standard post, I'm currently into my sixth week of waiting on a PSP game :(

That seems almost too long for PA. Over the years I have had a few packages reach 6+ weeks and finally arrive. It has always been during the december month. I've never ever had a package not show though. They eventually get to me.

I've pretty much switched to NCSX. And I've started ordering from amazon.jp.

Gosh, I miss Lik-sang :-(

Yeah same with me. They always get here, I just don't understand how it takes any more than a month to ship a package from HK to the UK :/
What makes it more frustrating is that I've been using them since early 2005 and back then it would be a week tops for delivery.

I used NCSX in the past as although their shipping was a little expensive, it took 4 or 5 days maximum to get stuff to me which was great. Having someone in HK that can get me the stuff quicker and cheaper is hard to beat though :)

Add me to those who really miss Lik-Sang too :'(

Next year I'm gonna try some new places for ordering. Amiami sounds like a good outfit. Will check them out.

Really digging Tenso. From amazon.jp to my door in CA is about 4-5 days. You pay a little more but the service is excellent.

No DoDonPachi R for me today :( We got a foot of snow here so everything shut down and no mail delivery. Can't complain, though, as we got the day off as well. Hopefully tomorrow for the long weekend!

Good to hear all the remarks here that the game is on the easier side!

I can't recommend AmiAmi enough. Great customer service, and their prices with shipping (even EMS) are right in line and often cheaper than their competitors. Here in the DC metro area I get my EMS orders in 2-3 business days tops.

Hope you get your DDP DFK here soon :). I still stink (FU Stage 5 lasers) but I'm having a lot of fun with it.

amiami is the best place to buy recent games from Japan period. It is reliable, cheap (all games comes with a discount in the retail suggest price), the shipping is fast and affortable, all pre-order bonus are delivered, perfect. But they do not keep stocks of games, just the newly released ones. Once the batch is sold out, you cannot order anymore. But there are huges (as far as 55% off) discounts to sell old stock.

as for deputity services, I really like to handle with shoppingmalljapan when buying stuff from yahoo auctions (or even amazon). Best prices on the net.

I use IE. Do not keep any other amiami pages loaded in other tabs, usually when I navigate in multiples tabs in their store something odd happens and it looses my login. You can browse the store using multiple tabs but keep just one opened when going to checkout.

Looks like the fabled Dai Ou Jou patch has run into more issues, and it has been delayed yet again:

EOJ said:
Mihara says that at 11pm Japan time, on December 2, 2010, Microsoft finished tests on the patch and informed him and 5pb that the patch causes the game to crash once it has been installed. He goes on to explain that the original game was developed in an old development environment, and transitioning that to a new development environment is difficult, hence all of these continual problems.

He states Cave is helping out, and if they can find a solution to the crashing problem it will be released in 2 weeks. I have heard him say this many times over the last year, so I would not get your hopes up just yet. Still, he seems optimistic because Cave has a lot of experience in this area.

I'm shocked they didn't just do a recall/re-release in the first place. It's not like they printed millions of the discs.. couldn't be more than a 50k printing.

Anyway, I was curious just how many versions of Daifukkatsu there are out there now, so I compiled a little list, excluding outdated versions like 1.01. It's safe to say this is easily the most 'remixed' Cave game ever.

1.50 - The official, latest arcade version.
1.51 - A version shown off at Cave Festival (2010?), available on first printings of the X360 port.
Arrange A - X360 port exclusive.
Arrange B - X360 port exclusive.
Novice - X360 port exclusive.
Black Label - DLC for the X360 port, and also available on a standalone disc in 2011.
'Ketsui Mode' - Available on a standalone disc in 2011 along with Black Label.
iPhone Mode - Exclusive to the iPhone port.
