Welcome Gundam fans! The UC series are in desperate need of a cool mega-thread (if crap like Seed & Naruto can get one......) so I've stepped up to the plate! Now I'm not usually one to make topics so ^_^;;; uh~I took my time in preparing this to get everything just right.

Ground rules & stuff:

No AU discussion (duh!)
Use spoiler tags please! (Especially for those series not yet out in the US)
I'm sure there are other movie compilations/mini-ova's but I didn't list them so as not to utterly confuse people.
The MSG movies were included since they're supposedly more canon then the tv series (Not that I care!)
At the behalf of distantmantra I'm allowing for Turn A to be included since it's probably/possibly canon.
Favorite character/mobile suit/intro (cause the ed's usually suck) chatter is always nice!

With all that stuff outta the way~~

Call me a weirdo fangirl if ya want but I've always eaten up Gundam series (not for yaoi either)! I recently got all the US released UC Gundam series aside from the movie trilogy. So far I've seen all but Miller's Report, CCA, & F91. Currently I'm watching the whole saga at one episode a week starting with MSG via dvd and am up to episode 4 so far. It's gonna take years to get through them all @_@ but it gives Bandai time ta release them other series anyways!

I still haven't seen the orginal series, but I've actually got the 3 Gundam novels that came out like 10 years ago or so. Covering Amuro Rey and "Sha" Aznable's first fights and the war. Weird that they came out in paper form here before the series itself did:p

I remember seeing a UC timeline in a Gundam ad and it it had G-savior in it, but the only thing I can find that says it does is this review from Stomp Tokyo.

That said, my my experiences with UC Gundam have been through the movie versions of the original series, and the 08th, as well as G-Savior (if it holds out as UC).

The movies made of the original series is probably one of the best wartime seiries I've ever seen anime or not, and if I saw as a kid it probably would have blown my mind.

Also I didn't like the mech designs at first, but they have grown on me and are probably my second favorite after the designs of Macross, just because they look more functional.

The movie trilogy of the original was great.

I kind of want to go to back to the series and watch all the episodes, I'm sure they probably fleshed out the characters more and the like. I felt bad for Amuro a lot.

Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team is one of the greatest short series ever. Shiro was a great captain, and it's kind of tragic that all he wanted to do was to end the fighting.

I need to pick up Z Gundam. Blah.

By the way, I know we're talking about UC, but I had a question. I saw the first 15 episodes of Gundam SeeD, and it just seems to be a retelling/remake/redo of the original Gundam. Any reason for this?

08th MS Team was much coolness but so was 0080 and 0083 @_@ Okay let's the say all the OVA's rocked in their own special little ways.

08th - More down to earth style war type series
0080 - Zeon POV
0083 - Gundam vs Gundam

Oh ya I never saw the movie trilogy either since it was sub-only so I went with buying the TV series instead. No regrets either!

Oh and Kamille > you. He's just so cool and cute! :)

And I got a question for anyone who might know~I read a description of Victory Gundam and apparently the main pilot is a newtype...from Earth? Don't ya gotta be a spacenoid to be a newtype or am I wrong?

MS 08th Team makes no sense in terms of Universal Century continuity, but still, it is a fantastic little OVA, only rivaled by War in the Pocket in terms of UC OVAs.

As far as I know, G-Saviour is a UC title, but everyone involved likes to forget it exists.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED echoes (excuse me, completely rips off) many events from Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam because it was meant to be a new jumping on point for a younger generation of children in Japan.

From what I could tell just by watching the Gundam movie trilogy, Newtypes are basically just the natural evolution of humans from them going into space, correct?

In Gundam SEED (only saw 15 episodes), Coordinators are basically genetically altered before they're born, right? What's with the BS that they're superhumanly strong and the like?

Oh, and I'm just curious, since from the UC I've only seen Gundam, 08th MS Team, and a bit of 0083, why doesn't 08th fit into the UC?

Edit:

I really need to pick up Z Gundam. I can't watch Char's counterattack until I see the Z Gundam series, right?

Yes, Newtypes are the next stage in human evolution, if you believe what Char (and Tomino) says about them.

In Gundam SEED (only saw 15 episodes), Coordinators are basically genetically altered before they're born, right? What's with the BS that they're superhumanly strong and the like?

Since they've been genetically engineered, they are impervious to many of the viruses that affect the normals, plus they've been messed with so much that their physical limits have been increased.

Oh, and I'm just curious, since from the UC I've only seen Gundam, 08th MS Team, and a bit of 0083, why doesn't 08th fit into the UC?

08th MS Team ignores much of the UC continuity set in place by Tomino. For example, there is no way the Federation could mass produce Gundams that quickly. 0083 ignores that too, as the GP series of Gundams are way too powerful compared to what would come in Zeta.

Both OAV's were excellent, they were kinda sappy at times, but they conveyed the likeness of war.

Its been awhile since I've seen any UC Gundam series, they were pretty good though.

I hope that doesn't mean 08th & 0083 "don't count." I'd take a retcon or two to allow for a much cool series~besides maybe the GP's were too powerful/expensive to continue making. As for the 08th Gundams I prefer to think of them as GM's instead of the real deal though that's just me.

Does/did the Anaheim company make every Gundam? I know they were focused on in 0083 and got mentions on Zeta/ZZ as well so it seems like they tie in pretty closely to every model made?

Oh and is Haro immortal? I d/l'ed the Victory intro and saw it there and was like wtf? :lol
