lol good luck getting folks back into theaters. This was inevitable, not just because of coronavirus lockdown but also because pay-per-view and streaming services have been nipping at the heels of traditional theaters for years.
Im a person waiting for theatres to open. Once covid is dealt with and blockbuster movies come out again people will go back in droves. You cant tell me yiu can have the same experience watching endgame at home than in a theatre with the bigger screen, better audio, better seating etc

Theaters were dying before COVID. The virus just made it happen a little sooner.

I have a large screen 4K HDR TV with surround sound and a nice, comfy couch. As an added bonus, I can stop or pause a movie whenever I need to use the bathroom or want a snack. That's paradise compared to uncomfortable movie theater seating and being surrounded by complete strangers who are going to talk and move around throughout the movie.

New movies don't even need to go to streaming services. Just offer them on demand. I won't spend $10 on a movie ticket but I'd have no problem paying $20 - $30 to "rent" the same movie for 24 hours to watch at home.

Good! I want to see this pretty bad, but i'm sure its terrible. But Disney plus needs more of this, no more re-releasing old movies and selling me that its a good deal.

When I was growing up, theaters are where you went to see new movies. Pay per view and HBO were only getting started, and they were still months after the box-office release.

Now you can get "new movies" on various streaming services on a monthly basis. It is now all about The Theater Experience. And I won't begrudge people who happily pay money for the comfort, the audiovisual quality, etc.

However, the original tug -- seeing a new movie that you otherwise would not be able to see -- has been watered down significantly.

You're right, i don't have the same experience, i have a better experience sitting at home.

Straight to D+ is a surprise though. They could at least make a few $ by releasing it on VOD first. Looks like they don't have much faith in this movie in the first place tbh.

Is this the new stuff with the trans twins and Elton John and the vampire or am I confusing that with something else?

No people, no noise, no kids running around, no lights from phones, comfortable chairs, i can piss whenever i want....

Where's the cinema better again?

haha speakers go boom?
Bigger screen, better sounds, and believe or not I like crowds. Endgame was made even better because of everyone reaction in my theatre. People were naturally happy with thr movie and pretty tame but when Cap picked up Thors hammer the theatre went ape shit and made that moment in time one of the best theatre experiences yet. Also its like watching a hockey game on tv compared to being there in person with the sights, the sounds, the smells and the crowd reaction/momentum shift etc

They want to make money with Disney+ and for that they need (waaayyyy) more content, not just some cheap documentarys with Jeff Goldblum and Musicals.
And their new Marvel stuff was just delayed to 2021.

They probably didn't even spend much money on this thing (I think it was pretty much finished when Disney bought FOX) so they don't really loose money by putting it on Disney+.

Each to their own.

It sounds like hell to me. Other people reacting to a movie i'm watching, feels like an inconvenience and annoys me. A big of a film i find not funny? People laugh and it makes me mad. The cheering over a film though? I'd have shot myself there and then.

I'm the kind of guy who would rather take a seat in the stands at a Metal concert so that i can enjoy the music.

D+ hasn't arrived here yet so I have no idea what content they actually have right now. Makes perfect sense what you're saying though.

most tvs these days are excellent, sound systems adequate, spaces customizable with fewer interruptions between setting up and sitting down to watch

selections are wider across various platforms w / fairly ubiquitous black box throughput

you can load up on snacks and drinks from the kitchen, pause or rewind, start over, sit where and how you want, tune illumination levels, whatever

theaters are a nice baseline for groups to watch movies together in a neutral hub

Im same as you, prefer seating at concerts so I can take it all in and listen to the music.

Cant imagine enjoying a film at cinema if people start cheering during a film, fucking hate when people distract me during films (usually wait for my mrs to go bed as she always seems to talk to me during a critical scene).

I can't fuck in the movie theater without getting thrown out, so gg movie theaters.

Looks about on par with Artimis Fowl, I get the impression these were never going to be released in the cinema, but they are trying to make out they would have been to build hype.

Set up a projector and projector screen at home. I did this with a Ben Q and have a 120" screen. Once you calibrate your projector you will find it looks better than any theater.

Cinemas are only around because of the cartel they run. We saw what happened with Trolls. The Cartel got together and basically blacklisted Universal (or whatever studio released the film). Cimema's are effectively holding Hollywood by the balls right now not letting them make money. All these movies could of went to VOD and studios could of made something off of them.

If the Cinema's didn't ban together and threaten anyone who releases a movie VOD day and date you would see every movie go that way except for the few loons like Nolan who love "film".

Either way both sides are killing each other. Cinemas are in debt and going bankrupt. Stateside box office numbers are going down. And both sides are beholden to these old rules of Cinema exclusivity because thats how things were done. I don't see Cinema's being a thing for a long time and all it will take is one outbreak from a movie theater and that bad press will be enough to turn them into the cruise industry.

TV spot from Australia showing new footage not in the other trailers announcing a September 4th streaming date.

Theaters are dead and not coming back, so this kind of had to happen.

This got pushed back so many times. Just release the movie on streaming services. Still waiting to see Mulan too.

This is weird, the cinemas are open in Australia!!! Release the film at the cinemas ya bastards!!!

You're probably one of those people who go to the movies once or twice a year right? When you go 50+ times a year, the issues you mention above rarely happen.

I've been to the cinema 3 in the last 10 years. twice last year, it was a rough year

LOL
I suggest looking for a decent cinema where people are respectable. In the Philippines I probably went to at least 12 cinemas until I found the one I liked. IMAX theatre a good 40 minutes away, but travel expenses were so cheap it's worth. In Australia, rarely if ever have an issue.

Last film I saw before lock down was Invisable Man, cinema filled with teenagers but they were all quiet.
:)

Delay it for as long as possible! I want this damn thing in theaters after it's fought for so long to be released. With every delay the eventual release in theaters will only be more epic

They don't exist, as far as i know, where i live. I've tried many cinemas and they're all the fucking same.

The best experience i ever had was watching Matrix 3 with me, two friends and one other couple in the cinema. If i could have the place to myself i would go

I've said it before, they will flip the script on extra content for the theatrical release if it's after VOD.

VOD - Gimped version

Theatrical - Actual version and you'll get given some free stickers and mini posters for seeing the theatrical version.

Re-release VOD uncut directors cut version.

I’m with you but my biggest fear is that the awesome dine in theater experience I’ve enjoyed almost exclusively the last few years is dead: if I have to go back to only movies and popcorn and not a restaurant quality burger and cocktail or pitcher of beer with friends ...and I can pay $20 for a better experience day and date at home with the theater I’m out.

The comfort of home and anyone with a brain having a basic entertainment system is going to kill off theaters entirely.

“Well, I mean, I don't really get scared about stuff like that. I just want as many people to see it as possible. And for everybody who wants to see it to be able to see it,” Boone explained. “So obviously if we can do it theaters, that's always my first choice. But like Disney came to me and said they were gonna stream it I'd be like awesome. Then everybody can watch it. It'd be great.”
