The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection thread

can't wait to see namco's online games.
This isn't the first time you've said this.

Tales is going to be online isn't it?
Baten Kaitos?

Can't wait to see the direction these games are headed!

I need to get me one of those dongles. Too bad there's nothing besides Mario Kart worth playing online for quite some time. In fact, no other game in jarrod's looks like something I would want to play online. But MK will do just fine as for now.

After the Gamecube version I have no intension or desire to play another Animal Crossing. However, I fear that there will be a huge thread here on GAF that will lure me in. :(

HERETIC! TAKE THAT BACK! :p

I think animal crossing is a brilliant game... but not a game for everybody. I've never recommended it to anybody.

Okay, someone help me out here.

Was an online Castlevania announced and is Monkey Ball DS online or not?

The next Castlevania game was known to be online enabled for a while now. I dunno about Monkey Ball though.

Animal Crossing BETTER have some nice toys or games to make up for the loss of NES titles.

Net enabled air hockey? Ping pong? SOMETHING?

We shall convert thee.

So let me see if I got this straight. I already have a DS, and a PC with broadband internet, so in order to play online, and free, the only other thing I would have to add to the equation is the dongle and any online enabled DS game?

And a lot of skill so I don't destroy your face. Good luck finding enough though.

Yes.

The Nintendongle or any WiFi capable router, yes.

don't steal my ideas ;)

still miffed there will be no two player NES games. guess they are saving that for REV ;) [/wish]

Well I think I'd actually prefer the USB dongle rather than a router so that I can take it with me to the University and play in one of the labs where WiFi may not be provided. It would be nice to have the internet almost as portable as your DS.

Like Wi-Fi for DS, but with better graphics and an even weirder controller.
I doubt it's like that. I bet it's more sophisticated than that. The virtual console is a good example. It's part of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for Revolution, IMO. Also, I think they will allow voice-chat and release a headset with a friendly button.

just to point something out to people, the nintendo dongle is ~$30. You can find an 802.11g router usually for $30-40 after mail in rebates, and many times for even $30-40 after instant rebates. If you don't have a free hotspot in your area (whether a real hotspot or just some shmo who doesn't have encryption turned on) you are probably better off buying a router than the dongle.

Since the dongle will probably not be a standard wifi router, but instead one that will communicate only with the DS and only do communications normal for the DS, it may still be a good thing to have if only for the convenience factor.

that's what I was thinking. I might get the dongle anyway, so I can bring it to work and play on my breaks. And even take it to friend's places that don't have a WiFi connection to play online against them + other ppl.

Which brings an interesting question... can multiple DSs use a single dongle connection?

If its acting like an Access Point then I would assume yes, but I guess we won't know until someone tries :)

I wouldn't think so... it seems like the dongle is only like a normal Wireless Adapter, and the link between the DS and the dongle would be p2p...

I don't think a wireless access point only cost $35...

I bought a wireless NIC for $28 (Pci) that has SoftAP, and it can work like a wireless access point. I wouldn't be surprised if this can too. I don't think it uses P2P because I'm fairly sure I had my Psp in infrastructure mode when I used softAP.

edit: here

and SoftAP compatible here

Exactly, especially if multiple ds can share it.
