The Odyssey (2026) Trailer

On the one hand I find the trailer pretty unremarkable. Mostly boring shots, and it seems to to be going for that "grounded" (not to be confused with realistic) style like the newer God of War, which I'm not that into.

On the other hand, Nolan is generally good about not spoiling the entire movie with the trailer, so the shots were probably intentionally kept vague and sort of boring.

Can't watch a movie where a Greek is not played by a cultural appropriate Greek, sorry. /s

Looks good, although Tom Holland took me out. He's just sooo out of place.

Pretty much the only film I'm interested in for 2026. Hope Nolan doesn't fuck it up, we're long overdue for an Odyssey film.

Yes I'm aware of the made for tv film. I want an updated version.

Still unsure about this.

It looks like expensive cosplay.
Is it because we're too used to it by now?

For me, for a few years now, I just can't get into all this. It's not believable. I know what the next line of dialogue would be in a movie, I know the camera angles, it all feels like I've seen it before. So I can see why it feels fake.

The lines spoken are tired: "Promise me you'll come back", "what if I can't.". Ok...

we really need someone to take on youtube, their compression and quality has dropped to all time garbage lows, you can;t even enjoy a proper trailer. Anyway aside from that goofy helmet at the start, looks great. Music and vistas will make or break this movie.

Maybe?

The 2004 version of Troy didn't have historically accurate armour, but it was more realistic than whatever Nolan is going for in this film?

Who is Odysseus kneeling to in this trailer? Is that supposed to be Achilles or Mycenaean Batman?

I think I'm just jaded with Hollywood attempts at films like this. Yes, I know the works of Homer are in the realms of fantasy, but this poem was written thousands of years ago about real bronze age civilizations. It could also be based on a real historical event.

I guess what I would like to see is a film that is historically accurate for the time period, cast with Greek actors and the dialogue spoken only in Mycenaean Greek language.

Its Nolan, at worst its good 🤷.

We havent had a decent epic for a while, napoleon was super disappointing, gladiator 2 was shite, the only one i didnt see was the last duel, I heard that was ok.

I'm so sick of Zendaya, I hope her role is kept to a minimum.

I don't dig those armors either. Interesting to see how Nolan works with hardcore fantasy.

I lump The Odyssey in with stories like Frankenstein, Dracula, and a few others.

They have all been done so many f'ing times already, do we really need another version?

Also, this film would be infinitely better with Ray Harryhausen-like special effects.

Has anyone seen the extended 5min IMAX opener?? Does it at least come together better than this teaser trailer?? As a previous poster said Nolan may be going for an ethereal/fantastical retelling of the story than a hardcore realistic setting which is a pity as it's too clean for my liking, it lacks that gritty dirty and real look of the opening of Gladiator 1 where the Legion looked like it had been fighting it's way across Europe

The costumes are so ridiculous I don't even know where to begin — especially the one that looks like a cartoon effect in close-up. Nothing about it works.

I also don't like that Dune-style filter, and more generally the trend in modern films to make everything look cold and grey.

Ahhh the good old days. Both great shows.
I watched a few episodes last night due to these Odyssey threads, it was the ones with Cesar (Karl Urban) and Brutus.

They actually did a fantastic job with the The Ides of March scene.

What is with that shitass costume? A 2 minute trailer made me laugh for 5 minutes, i didnt even see most of it.

Not surprised cinemas are dying.

found a 4k version. Why the fuck do the official channels only have a HD version?!?!

Well, it's sure looking like a Chris Nolan flick. He seems to be hitting everything with the same tones, sci-fi, historical, wartime, they're all feeling so similar.
