The Office appreciation thread

I couldn't find too many posts about this show, since most were probably gone with the crash, so here it is.

I got the complete series (series1, 2, christmas special) on deepdiscountdvd.com a while ago for about $35. What a great series. I loved the humor and the tension. The special was great and wrapped things up nicely. The bloopers and deleted scenes were hilarious.
The guy who plays Brent is a nut in real life too.

I've downloaded season one and two but have only had time to watch the first season. I havnent seen a torrent for the xmas special

I liked the song about princess Di dying in the car accident and he was using it to make that chick feel better. Hilarious

Only watched it last week, but it was great.

The Garreth-Tim-Dawn Army Questions is some of the funniest TV I've seen in a long time.

The 'for fucks sake' moment in the Special was great as well.

Can't reccomend it enough.

Pretty girl on the hood of a cadillac, yeah
She's broken down on Freeway 9.
I take a look, I get her engine started, and
leave her purring and I roll on by. Bye, bye

Free love on the freelove freeway, the
Love is free and the freeway's long, I got some
Hot love on the hotlove highway, ain't
Going home 'cause my baby's gone (she's gone)

A little while later, see a Senorita,
She's caught a flat trying to make it home.
She says, "Por favor, can you pump me up?"
I say, "Muchos gracias, adios. Bye, bye."

A long time later I see a cowboy crying
"Hey buddy, what can I do?"
He says, "I lived a good life, had about a thousand women,"
I said, "Why the tears?", he says, " ' Cause none of them was you".

Easily one of the best comedies ever.

greatest television show ever.

what exactly is the christmas special? was it on the season 2 set? and is there any way to get it besides buying the season 1+2 set?

edit: ah, i see it's something separate. and there's a standalone dvd. i'll have to pick it up tomorrow.

I love how the show is so good that after seeing it once, you don't want to see it again. It's that realistic. Yet after a while you have to see it again and again.

Great, great show. I don't have the Christmas special because I can't see spending $20 for one episode when I was able to able seasons one and two for the same price.

Anyone else excited about the US version they're doing? It is airing in January on NBC.

Could be funny, but I don't see the point of it. If it was airing on Comedy Central, fine--then they could at least leave some of the raunchier stuff in. But then why make a new American version if it were identical? $$$$$$$$$

So far I've heard nothing but bad things about the US remake. My guess is this will turn out much like Coupling and the US version will flop terribly. But I really wanna see it, just for comparison's sake.

The thing about the US Office is that if it's successful, they'll string it along further than the British series. The British one is great because there's a progression, and eventual "end." Imagine the US Office being stretched out for more than two seasons. Bleccch.

I've only seen half of the special, the second half. I want to see the first half. Anyone know of a torrent (while I wait until Christmas to see if I get it) ?

The special show is 1 1/2 hour long, plus the disk has commentary and 2 music videos on it, so it's almost a season itself.

Oh, and the American version will suck, and will ruin the Office's name into the ground.

One of the best comedies ever, indeed. I loved it. So funny, but touching (I have to say I found the second season depressing, it was hard to press on). I found out about it by chance, thanks to a friend who lives in London. As good as it is, it seems practically noone outside of the UK (or the english-speaking countries) has heard of it, though.

Are the christmas special nearly as good as the rest of the series? They were bundled separately and quite expensive.

They're just as good, but in a different sort of way. They definitely bring closure, though, and all-in-all are a fitting end to a remarkable series.

Office is up there in my all-time Top 5 tv shows. Pure brilliance. I remember watching the first season on DVD at one sitting with a bottle of red wine while my gf had a girls night out. Never laughed so hard before.

Noooooo

Steve Carell is a God. He should be able to make anything funny, even bad writing.

I'm not so worried about that part. What's going to kill this show are the surrounding people. I have little confidence in Hollywood's ability to build a winning ensemble, though. Even the British Office is more than Ricky Gervais.

Definitely one of my top 3 comedies of all time. Shame it never got the kind of audience it deserved.

Be sure to check out his latest stand-up DVD,

Also you can get the full version of Freelove Freeway here.

Americans steal everything. Why not the Office? Tv shows, movies, etc that Americans steal usually turn out like shit, but Steve Carell is pretty funny, and I can't get enough of the show, even if it is a shittier version.

When I got the DVDs I watched them by myself and with three different people over a few weeks - that's how much I like the program.

My brother got the DVDs after a segment on NPR. We watched them all, and we loved them.

Possibly the best comedy of all time, and just behind 24 as my favorite show ever. I never watched the christmas special though... hopefully, Ill catch it on the 25th with BBC America.

Best line from the show ever:
"My dads not really in with the times.
He still uses words like birdies instead of girls,
Fairies instead of gays,
and Darkies instead of coloreds"

I fell on the floor

I hope its successful as the USA version of Red Dwarf

It's terrible.
It reminds me of working with some of the most incompetent people ever to walk the face of the Earth. When my job involved working for people that should have drowned in the gene pool, I certainly didn't find it funny.

Hilarious set. I picked up Seasons 1 and 2 for 23 bucks Canadian on a whim, best comedy purchase I've made besides Chapelle Season 1. Honestly, I had no idea this show existed until somebody had Brent's crazy arm dance as an animated avatar. Got an explanation, tracked it down, and love it something fierce.

So many great moments, but my personal favourite is a real throwaway one - blink and you'll miss it. When the crew goes out to the nightclub for some bonding, Gareth is hitting on the cougar, and it turns out her husband is right there. Right there and hoping to have Gareth join in on some 3-way the fun. Gareth declines without any grace whatsoever, the outing crumbles.....and at the end, when everyone's leaving the bar, you see Hubby on his bike with his cougar wife behind him....and Gareth in the sidecar with a "what have I done" look directly into the camera. :lol :lol Classic.

The American one is going to suck on network television, especially in today's political climate. I'll watch the first episode, but I have no faith in NBC whatsoever.

I think I've now watched the entire series about five times. Even when you know all the jokes already, just watching how the lines are delivered and the reactions of the various characters make this a DVD set you can go back to again and again.

I'm sure most Office fans know this already, but I'll mention it anyway: Martin Freeman who plays Tim will be Arthur Dent in the movie version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which comes out next year.

Other current UK comedies worth watching (if you can get hold of them) are Anything by Chris Morris (The Day Today, Brasseye and Jam), A comedy called The Green Wing (basically think of a mad version of ER with Bizarre stuff going on). Another excellant show is "The Peep Show". And if you like your comedies to be completely and utterly mad the "Gareth Marenghis Darkplace" is about the strangest thing you'll ever see (it stars the computer geek from the Office).

I'm going to bump this because I almost made a thread with the exact same title. After months and months of hearing about great this show is, I finally (probably because it's always checked out at the Blockbuster across the street) rented Season 1 and godDAMN.....this is one of the funniest shows ever. The writing and the acting is pure brilliance. David and Gareth are both fucking hilarious in their own special ways. Loved the scene where Tim and what's-her-name were in the meeting room pretending to chat up Gareth on his military experience. "So you'd use your hole as a trap?" :lol :lol

Is there another season coming out or what?

There are two series (seasons), and two Christmas specials. That's it. There's an American remake coming eventually as well, but I'd steer clear of that.
