The Office (UK) is the greatest show ever

This show is great, but I can never watch it again because it makes my skin crawl by how cringey it is. I mean, David Brent is an embarrassment of a boss by how awkward he is. He just makes you groan with his fuckups. But that's what makes him the perfect protagonist for this show.

I think the US office is better. Isn't that strange? Usually US shows based off British comedy die before they leave the ground. (Red dwarf, IT crowd). So, whoever translated it across did an excellent job.

Yes, I am British. Sorry my fellow countrymen, for this betrayal. It is what it is. I don't make the rules.

Well... I prefer the US office.

Yes, I am British. Sorry everyone. It is what it is. I don't make the rules.

I'm British too and prefer the US Office (seasons 2-3 rly..)

On the Ricky note. Everyone needs to watch Extras. I find i so much more funnier than The Office.

One of the funniest scenes ever (probably needs context - Ricky's character asked a noisy family to leave a resteraunt, little did he know the kid had down's syndrome so couldnt help it. reporters literally fingering trash at the start):

Or when Ricky & Stephen are talking about time and Stephens character can't get to grips with time zones..

You don’t like Season 5 of The Wire? Or am I misreading the OP? I consider it one of the greatest seasons in TV history

I have never watched all of The Office (UK). I made it through season one years ago. I need to binge it all

I’ve watched the US show beginning to end numerous times

What about the film ?

It's decent but nowhere near the quality of the show. A lot of the subtley and realism is gone and Brent is more like a caricature of himself, which is still funny but not as well rounded as the show. If you've seen the guiter webisodes thing Gervais did, it's like that type of quality.

They are two diferent shows. US is just over the top wackiness that got dragged on forever because money. IT's an easy show to watch but it doesn't have the same piercing quality as UK nor the complete and coherent character arcs. It's just a funy sitcom whereas UK is something more.

I can completely understand why many would people prefer US. But UK is the better and more well rounded show.

I mean season 5 is good, esecpailyl compared to the general quaity of other shows. But it was absolutely a dip in form. Besides that, even earlier seasons have weak storylines here and there.

The Wire is total GOAT status and it'sunbelievable what they achieved. But it's doesn't have perfect consistency like The Office UK.

Edit: After rewatching The Wire 3 times I think Season 1 is the only Season that achieves perfect status.

You mean Jerry
Nah Jerry was kinda funny because he had normal-person reactions to things, which balanced out well with the bald dude

Kramer was just over acted slapstick/ body humour. Not really my thing.

Nah this take isn't triggering but you gotta sometimes wonder the experiences and mindsets of people to get to this point. I've only seen it once though so maybe on a second watch perspectives change but from the entry point of a show it really is rocky as fuck when it comes to gripping the audience S2 is the pleb filter even more though.

Also I've never properly watched The Office (UK) but it didn't drag the fuck out and ended when it needed to. Wasn't it like 2 seasons and a Christmas special? Americans don't know when to end a show which is why they took the edgy WOT IF YA MUM WAS A BATTERY show and drove it into the ground.

Simpsons seasons 4 - 7 is better.

I'm talking about full runs of a show - their entire story and character arcs. So isolating a couple of seasons from a show is invalid.

It is, I don't disagree. I didnt think much of Season 1 on my first watch, in fact I put the show down for like a year after watching that because it didn't seem anything special. But then watching the latter seasons and seeing how everything is connected and builds upons each other - unlike many other shows which have nowhere near the same level of coherency for their characters and stories - and rewatching the series a few times, I think Season 1 absolutely the tightest and most compelling. All the other seasons have weak plot points and characters (some of the political stuff, Cutty, the Sabotkas arent as interesting, etc) but Season 1 is just super tight.

Yeah The Office UK has 14 episodes total. 12 episodes at 20 mins each plus he 2 specials which are I think 40 minutes each. It ended exactly when it needed to, like a good film.

You misspelled US. And it's the greatest comedy, The Wire is the real GOAT overall. OP, you so wrong.

Just no. No. The US is typical american sitcom - unrealistic, overlong, packed with filler etc. It's a good show to put on in the background and watch clips on youtube, but as a piece of genuine art absolutely not.

The Wire is GOAT status absolutely, but it's not consistent. Season 5 is a weak season and even seasons 2-4 as good as they are have some weak story lines and characters. Only Season 1 reaches the level of perfection.

The Office UK, as a whole series, is perfect consistency with no weak spots and ends right when it needs to.

Yeah, love the series! I don't know what my favorite episode is, but probably the one with the training at Wernham Hogg. But I think they are all great. It can be hilariously funny, painfully cringeworthy, or moving to watch. The love stories were also well-written, and the Christmas specials were a nice way to put an end to it.

The training episode has so many great moments
