The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Im waiting for Gaf impressions on this game from people who LOVE Oblivion.
I put more than 200 hours into Oblivion. I'll post my impressions later once I get the game (early morning Tuesday).

Not very. You find/buy schematics and then scour the wastes finding the parts required to build said schematic. Then find a work bench and build it. Saying that - the weapons you can build generally aren't available any other way. And this specific melee weapon is awesome.

Ah, so it's just limited to whatever schematics you happen to have? I thought I had read something that you can make them shoot whatever you want. Is that still possible? I seem to remember a vid where Todd Howard or whoever was shooting teddy bears and such out of some gun.

Set far after the events of 2, on the other side of the country. You'll probably only miss out on the nods to the first 2.

No. It has been designed for people whom have never played a fallout game before. Also, the last fallout came out 11 years ago, so even if you had played it, how much would someone really remember?

Hmm, not really. You just need to know who the Enclave (bad guys; also
the U.S. Government
) and Brotherhood of Steel (good guys) are.

So does 3 retread over the first 2 games plot points? Like that (genuine Fallout 2 spoilers, kids)
the vaults were Enclave experiments and such?

How are the environments in Fallout 3. I'm someone who LOVED Oblivion, and loved its environment. So far, though, all I've seen of FO3 are huge barren wastelands. Is there any variety in the game? Some trees and grass here and there? How about the life, are there interesting "guilds" in FO3? Interesting characters? I'm so close to picking this game up but these are the things that are holding me back and making me think maybe I should just pick up fable 2 instead.

I haven't finished, but from what I've seen so far, nope. I'm sure that's mentioned at some point, though. It would be a huge oversight, if it wasn't.

I'm guessing it's only going to be preorder sales for the Gamestop midnight releases? I'm tempted to buy a copy now since I don't want to wait a week for my online order to arrive.

No I'm sure you can just walk in tonight. They got their shipment last week so they should have enough.

Yes it does. You realise the extent of
the experiments after reading the instructions given to the Overseers in the various Vaults. And some of the experiments were much more imaginative than that of the previous games.

Is a full melee build feasible in FO3? I was looking forward to trying out some 3rd person melee
Definitely. There are some really powerful melee weapons in the game, I haven't even got a melee build and I've been dropping enemies really fast. With a proper build and some chems it would be a breeze.

That would be the Rock-It launcher, one of the first schematics you have a chance to get.

I'm assuming its power is dependent upon the ammo. I just read on the Fallout wiki that it can shoot out... human remains? Interesting.

I haven't actually gotten a hold of it yet so I couldn't tell you, but as far as I am aware you can shoot anything out of it.

Don´t worry about that. Yeah, there´s Wasteland and ruined city, but to me it really has enough variety. There are some great, unique locations. They totally utilised the possibilities of the universe, of the setting.

turned my review in to the publication... now the waiting game to see the other scores when the embargo lifts.

Watching that stream it looks like the animation is jacked.

The guy was strafing left, but the animation was of the guy running forward. After playing Dead Space it looked fucking stupid.

If you're playing it for the animation you are playing it for the wrong reason. Yes Dead Space is more polished, but its hugely linear compared to FO3.

Any more tips for FO nubs besides the strength/melee one?

quick edit: commercials airing on Comedy Central? Just saw one.

If Fallout 3 is anything like the first two, you're gonna want to up your speech level a lot. Just makes for a much better experience since you have way more dialogue options.

Totally feasible and pretty bad-ass. I prefer to play this way in first-person with occasional VATS, though.

I know everyone wants this game to be nothing like Oblivion but I am seriously hoping to god that it is just like Oblivion. If Fallout 3 can give me half the enjoyment that Oblivion did then I will be buying this game for sure.

Im waiting for Gaf impressions on this game from people who LOVE Oblivion.

amen. if Fallout 3 is the same bethesda goodness but in a post apocalyptic setting, it's 110% win for me.

i'm getting my copy in 2.5 hours. midnight release baby!

It's not so bad this time around because there are perks that give you unique dialog options. I prefer to play a character with high speech, but it's totally feasible to play a character with lower speech and choose the unique dialog option perks to extend your experience.

I'm a bit torn on the environment so far. It doesn't look all that great from a style perspective, even given the subject matter, but I continue to be excited for each new area uncovered.

I'm mainly happy that the review was on the PC version, and that the interface works well. That was my biggest concern.

Looks like this'll be the last time I tread here until I get my game in the mail on Thursday. I just won't be able to take hearing all of you people playing and enjoying the game while I have to write essays for school :lol

Interesting. The manual was released with the full perks list, but I've held off on looking at it since I'm getting the game anyway. Looks like I may have to do some tweaks to my usual Fallout playing style.

My copy shipped...should have it early tomorrow. Guess I'm not studying for my stat midterm.

something something gamma distributions...

Thanks, I appreciate it immensely.

Yeah from what I hear, dialogue is very important. I won't skimp on it.
