The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Woooooooooow, I just went through the elementary school that's near megaton and it was infinitely better than any dungeon from Oblivion. It was rather scary, too, this game is good.

Whatever. I've been watching one of our senior designers play the game all day. Can't wait to get home and try it. He's been mostly screwing around and being as horrible as possible. One hilarious moment was when he did VATS on his father with a BB gun and it went into slow motion cutscene view showing him shoot his father in the head. We all exploded in cheers and clapping.

:lol awesome

I'm going to have a lot of fun with the cutscene attacks.

Cool beans, that sounds awesome.

Protip: if the output clues are ENGRISH, TEXTURE, PORT and FUCK... the password is okrim.
:lol :lol :lol I'm on his ignore list

Once I've gotten the GRN plaza (or whatever it's called) checked on the map I can go back and forth between there and megaton right? Gotta buy a bunch of stimpacks. Also is there anyone else in the town that will buy the stuff you don't want besides the guy at the clinic? Moira only sells stuff.

Why does Steam give me a multiplayer key for Fallout 3 :lol

It's funny how the first time you launch a 100% Steam game, it tells you it needs "updates", then finishes downloading the game and installs it.

I love this game so far!

I got the PC CE at the midnight launch at the Best Buy in Pasadena. So many extras! Cool shirt (with sizes!), pins, stickers, mini-guide, Nuka-Cola bottle opener, etc.

I loaded it up when I got home, and I went to bed at 5 AM.

Ya it sucks. I got home and see the 100% finished status and was all happy and now I got to sit through a huge update.

Just opened the game, and I have to say that even if it fucking sucks, Bethesda rocks for including full colour, separate manuals for english and french.

That is just good business.

From what I can tell, the full game is 6.2GB, but it says you have 100% after ~2.6GB, and the update is finishing the download.

Where is the
source of the fire ants
for the quest Those!

Talk to the kid, then look in the shack next to their house (by the diner) and you should have to head to the Metro station. You'll find what you seek there!

Thanks! The kid talked to me and then no map marker appeared. :\

Alright Gaf, I really like the first couple of hours of Oblivion but then got to the point where I didn't really care at all about the main characters or any of the main quests. The game just felt like a bunch of side quests to me. Is the narrative more interesting in Fallout than it was in Oblivion? I wasn't planing on picking this game up at all but the buzz is getting to me. I also loved Fable 2 and am starting to develop an RPG itch I am afraid.

Holy fuck, this update is going to take all day. Why couldn't they have just released this at midnight.

Ya it's driving me nuts, because I apparently can't launch Far Cry 2 while this is updating.

okay, i'm still in the vault, but anybody who has said this game doesn't retain Fallout's classic dark humor has some serious perception issues...

Maybe they need to put some points in perception then! BA DUMP TIS!!!!

i know terrible....but i couldnt help it

Oblivion is my favorite next-gen game so far...but Fallout 3 will probably take the cake. It's that fucking amazing.

I agree. Perhaps its too subtle for some people. I found a lot of the NPCs and player responses absolutely hilarious. Moira in particular - that crazy bitch!

Whats the deal? Is there a friends list, does it have achievements?

Just got home with the PC CE, and it's my first GFW Live game. I'll let you know soon, but I was told yes to achievements.

Someone tell me though, what made Eurogamer change its mind towards Fallout 3? I mean going from that one devastating preview to a 10/10 is somewhat odd.

Apart from that, any big Fallout fans that did not like Oblivion got their hands on the game yet? I'd like to know what you think.

Ah this game is so good. Got in a battle with like 6 Super Mutants altogether, in an area where I dont think I was suppose to be at my level...crazy. Lobbed frag grenades like crazy

Got to Megaton and a lot of the doors are closed. Is this because it's night time? Can I sleep at an inn somewhere or do I have to kill time outside?

Anyone run this on a 8800GT level card or similar yet? I wonder how well this game will fair on my PC.

That will run the game great at 1440x900, 1280x1024, and even 1680x1050.

Just wait it out until the morning. On 360 the button is Back I assume it'll be Select on PS3. Otherwise you can go to Moriarty's and pay for a room but its $$$.

Oh shit I just killed the Overseer, what have I done?

I also immediately regretted going into the school right off the start. I was about to be swarmed, heard gunfire, then I booked it the hell out of there.

Did you click on the doors? They were closed for me too and I just went up to it and opened the door.

Just finished classes and picked up the last PC collector's version. :D

I don't know if I should be surprised, but the PC version sold much faster than the console versions in my area. Even though they got fewer of them, proportionately they've been moving faster.

Anyway, awesome CE is awesome. Vault boy bobblehead has a permanent place on my shelf next to Mr Bubbles. :)

I have a question about the RAD, does it stay without forever, wear off, or are you able to get rid of it? I drank water from a water tower and it said it had like +5 RAD.

Right here, I've played Fallout 1 and 2 through many times since they came out and I'd easily say they're my favorite games of all time.

I also got bored of Oblivion after about 10 hours. It had more to do with the setting and the writing than anything else though. I consistently saw parallels between fallout and oblivion as I was playing the latter, it's just that Oblivion was sort of boring.

As for Fallout 3, it really feels almost entirely unlike but not completely similar to the old Fallout games. It plays much like Oblivion did, but in the Fallout universe. The combat is very similar to oblivion when you're outside the V.A.T.S system, but when you're using that you can't help but think that this is what Fallout would be if it was real time.

For example, I stumble across two super mutants in the wasteland who are poised to rip my head from my shoulders. Using vats, I was able to make one lose his minigun he was carrying by crippling his arm (no two handed weapons as a result) and the other slowed down because I got a crit on his legs. I thought for sure I was going to die when I saw those Mutants coming over the horizon, because I remember the first time I saw them in Fallout 1 they were such fucking impossible things to kill. I still was way underpowered, but like the old games, you can use targeted hits to swing the odds in your favor. Very awesome.

I think that's the real difference, along with the perks and SPECIAL that makes it just cling onto that classic Fallout feeling. As much as the setting and story ARE Fallout, all those little Oblivion engine things (Glitches, simliar sounding npcs, the control) tend to pull you out of the "This is a Fallout game" mood every once in a while.

The music also doesn't really feel right. It lacks that tribal feeling that the other games had. But they were more about being in the desert and many of the people and locations were tribal. Fallout 3 has a bit more of a modern feel to it. Closer to the old west than ancient native americans. The variety is good, but I was hoping to hear a few of the old tracks from Fallout 1 and 2.

If you're a fallout fan you should buy and play this regardless. Bethesda's effort and ability to pull something off like this with such a huge budget is worth supporting, even if they didn't get it perfect or it isn't exactly like the old games.

If I had my way there'd be a 2D, Turn Based, Isometric fallout as well, but this is a quality product on it's own. Not as good as the originals so far, but still a great, must play RPG, even in this packed holiday season.

There are radiation sickness levels that effect your stats at 200-400-600-800 RADS and 1000 RADS means death. You can pay for a Doctor to fix you up or you can take RadAway and do it yourself.

Either you are trying to break into peoples houses or its still too early. Moriarty's should be open all night and places like Craterside Supply, The Brass Lantern and the Doctors Office should be open by 8am or so.

Oblivion sold pretty well for a PC game, especially since it has no DRM except a disc check. Fallout is also a PC franchise, so it's no surprise that this game is doing well on PC.
