The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Ok so, what the hell....minor spoilers for people who haven't got to the first major town yet.

I pickpocketed Moriarty, and got his office key. But where the fuck is his office :lol :lol . I got lootin' to do!

What's wrong with it? It's perfectly fine (more than perfectly fine, it's excellent) on the 360 version and I've played 30 hours on a 42" LCD.

I just cannot stand to use it, I am sure I am in the minority here. The fact that 2/3 of the screen is used to show the side pictures instead of showing information makes it very un-user friendly and a pain in my ass to manage information.

That is my only major gripe about the game

Pretty funny blowing Tenpennys head off and walking around his tower in his suit and no one seems to notice:lol

Loving how you can approach quests, and interacting with people in some many ways, just killing people and taking a key they might be holding is much more fun than killing some Radroaches. I can see me missing out on so many quests this way.

What does:

You must use "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel to install or configure Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 x64.

mean?

Regarding a quest of sorts in the Megaton and a possible bug:

I fixed all 3 of the water leaks, went back to the purification center, and WTF? Walter is gone. So I figure he's roaming around town. I have spent over 45 minutes looking for this fucker and he is NOWHERE to be found. Every other NPC I've met I keep seeing, but Walter is glitched or something. I've tried re-entering town numerous times hoping for a reset or something but he never is in his shop, or around it, or ANYWHERE in Megaton. Anyone have any advice?

I completely agree. I don't like it, at all. Oblivion's menu screen was much better.

He'll be back, only advice I can offer is to wait for maybe 2-3 hour intervals either inside or outside of the plant. Sometimes people are hard to find, they seem to have their own agendas (RadiantAI?).

Yea, it's fine. The PC version is definitely the version to get if you've got a fairly modern rig, but there's nothing wrong with either of the other versions.

I tried doing it for a day of in-game time inside the plant, and then for two in-game days outside and he still hasn't showed up. It's really starting to piss me off. I even went and did the entire Blood Ties quest line after having this problem thinking that by the time I finished it and returned to Megaton that he'd have returned, but he's still missing.

Perhaps you have stumbled upon a glitch. Not sure what else to suggest, I did that quest yesterday and the old fella was exactly where he was supposed to be when I was done.

I was blown away by the beginning of the game but the PipBoy interface breaks it for me. I cannot stand using it, I have to squint at my 42 inch lcd because only 1/3 of the screen is used for actual information in the PipBoy... very disappointed by that, normally I would keep playing it but I have so many games right now in my backlog that I won't be coming to this in quite sometime.

How can you have a Fallout game without vault boy slides? altho i wish the text was smaller for the pc version, its still got that console fontitis of being VERY LARGE TEXT SIZE when i would prefer it look smaller

Zzoram said:
The interface is similar to the original games.

well to be fair the original games had the items as a smal sprite and then just info in text boxes about them. I like Vault Boy tho, I thought the UI and fonts and everything in oblivion was hideos.

OK, the PC version has this annoying thing going on that others have noted on the official forums. Basically, the game skips. According to FRAPS I'm getting a rock solid 60 fps yet, regardless of settings, there is a constant (slight) hitching that occurs at all times (especially obvious during camera panning or movement of any type). It just looks and feels sloppy.

Now, it certainly doesn't RUIN the game, but it does drag down the experience a bit. Nobody seems to have any idea what is causing it, though.

I have a feeling this problem isn't going to be addressed. :(

Asside from having to be offline to play (game freezes when you get a notification) the game is running great so far. I hope that's patched soon!

Dr. Lesko's
password recording sounds just like Jeff Green :lol

What's everyone recommending for SPECIAL? I'm about to step outside but don't want to commit without some GAFfirmation.

SPECIAL
Strength 6
Perception 6
Endurance 6
Charisma 5
Intelligence 7
Agility 6
Luck 4

Skills
Science
Small arms
Speech

I just want to be able to shoot & hack things and still have decent dialog options. Ideas?

Anyone have any advice for a good starting build?

I'm on 6s and 5s, but that feels too balanced. I'm also considering Small Guns, Melee and Science... but I'm not sure.

Everyone on the PC is experiencing this?

You have a URL?

Yeah, Che. When the camera pans, especially after dialog, my framerate stutters (~50 FPS otherwise).

I've got a bunch of audio noise, but I blame Boot Camp drivers.

eh thats par for the course imo for Gamebryo engine, morrowind had it bad, oblivion had it a too, fallout 3 has it a bit less but still there, its just loading in sector nodes next to you.

Ok got a ? here, when I was a young lad and got
the bb gun
i was able t to go use the RE4 style over the shoulder view. Now that I am
out of the vault
I am no longer able to go into that view. Whats up with dat?

I went with the ploy to let Roy Phillips invade Tenpenny Tower but i goofed when i tried to hack the generator terminal, any one know who has the password/key so i can open up hell on the tower?

Game is so, so good on PC.

I was really expecting this game to be an oblivion mod and seeing as I hated Oblivion that was the last thing I wanted.

Glad to see I was wrong, the setting, guns/vat system, story, a non wonky ass sleep to level system and much more make this game incredible.

Finishing up some work for tomorrow then back I go.

I'm at the same point, I don't want to go outside yet! Quick, people, what skills?

OK, my evil side took over. Right away I was given a quest in megaton and then I met a fellow who gave me an interesting proposition...

basically I nuked the shit out of megaton...but now I am reading all these quests. have I messed up huge? it was so awesome to see it blow....

Oh no, it's not related to loading. If I stand in any room and slowly pan the camera it constantly "skips". It's difficult to explain, but it's really nothing like HDD stuttering or anything like that. It's just this constant little hitch in the framerate that occurs 100% of the time. Even when the intro logos (which are realtime) pan over the screen you see this same issue. It drives me nuts.

Fortunately, with so many other games to play right now, I don't mind waiting a bit to see if they fix it. I really like what I've played thus far, though, and can't wait to continue.

No Mutants Allowed is running a contest!

To “celebrate” the release of Fallout 3, the staff of No Mutants Allowed is proud to announce our "Caption Contest". Since every site seems to be running Bethesda funded contests, we needed to keep up! The goal is that you come up with a clever and witty caption for a screenshot of your choice from Fallout 3. The screenshot may either be taken by yourself, or found on the web. The slogan however needs to be your own (in case of doubt, you'll be disqualified). A maximum of three (3) entries will be allowed per participant, only members (new and old alike) are eligible. The winner will be selected by our highly qualified staff after meticulous scrutiny of all entries (gauged by how much their jaw hurts from laughing out loud). The entries have to be mailed to contest@nma-fallout.com or posted in this news thread before the 14th of November. The winner's entry (and the most meritorious runners-up) will be published a few days later in the following weekend.

But what will the winner get in return you ask? This lovely sky blue article of clothing has been used to demonstrate the exact feelings that NMA, and the many loyal fans have towards the newest spawn of the already much abused Fallout franchise.

This Vault 101 shirt is an authentic Fallout 3 shirt as provided by Bethesda (though not for the purpose of this contest) to one of our reporters during the sneak-preview at the Games Convention in Leipzig last year, and has been lovingly stored up til now. Today however, it has been ventilated in a random pattern by a Colt 10mm Auto by said reporter, expending 13 rounds in memory of Fallout 1, and another 13 rounds for Fallout 2. No Bethesda staff were hurt during this incident (as NMA staff harbors no ill will towards them) and the reporter in question let us know that he felt a certain feeling of release and closure as he riddled the Vault attire with bullets.

The winner of the contest will receive this tastefully and expertfully customized item, personally autographed by as many members of the NMA team as we can muster!

What is the best route to
Galaxy News Radio??
Whatever way I try to go I just run into rubble you can't climb over and other locations I'm not exactly looking for (
Dukhov's pad
).

The quick travel is a life saver, I wouldn't be able to stand manually hiking it back to places I had already been.

It's the cabinet to the left of his computer terminal.

Anyone know what is the easier quest to do first in Megaton,
deliver the note to the other town
or go to the
food mart and get drugs\food
.

Ok- just started the game...Im to the point where im in the classroom to take my test, I sit down, and nothing happens...

Everyone is taking their tests and I am just sitting there like an idiot- and the teacher is just standing there

HELP ME!!

(I tried reloading and sitting in a different seat and nothing happened again...)

It's sad that I can't remember the exact details for some reason but I was talking to someone in the town about how the bomb would be dangerous. I believe it was the main sheriff guy you meet when you first get into town. What else you do beyond that, I don't know.

Thanks for the tip, going to try that.

The difficulty curve in this game is insane or maybe it just doesn't exist. Three hours into the game i am at lvl 4 and fighting super mutants and trying not to die every 30 seconds. I guess thats because i am trying to do the main quest line but thats only because i tried doing some side quests and those were too hard because i was dying in seconds as well or just running out of ammo.

Definitely ain't getting Fallout 3 for now, got hit with a $100 parking ticket today. Awesome. Have to pay that, save money for Gears 2 and the normal costs of food and gas. And no Fallout 3. Maybe down the road.

This game just ruined Oblivion for me. I wanted to play evil, but I can't since the characters don't all have the same voice or say the same thing! They feel like people dammit! You really have to roleplay since you can't max out all the skills so you have to make a specialized character and go with it. And also, I love how you can't do everything unlike Oblivion where every quest was open. I hated in Oblivion how you couldn't change the outcome of the quests like in the Dark Brotherhood. You couldn't warn anyone of the purification and had to kill them all. In Fallout 3, you have the choice dammit!

So fucking amazing, there are no words.

You can just turn off Notifications and still be online. That should help if you plan on downloading anything in the background.

I guess I wasnt the only one who had this glitch- I saw it pop up in multiple forums, the solution, weird enough as it is, if you fight butch, beat him unconscious and then when you sit down the test works.....

god, this game better be good, I had a game stopping glitch in the first 10 mins....

Great game. Picked it up for 360 (as my pc essentially sucks) after work today. I just made it through what you could equate to the opener and have unlocked 3 achievements.

I have found it very fun/enjoyable so far.

I hope a mod for the PC pops up that allows unlimited use of VATS (aka, ditch the AP bar). I'm just not having much fun with any sort of combat while waiting for it to charge back up.

Well, so far I've had one unsurvivable autosave situation and one PS3 crash, but other than that... well, I'm having fun getting my ass kicked.
