The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

At this point if I do an upgrade I am not sure what I would do. This past summer I upgraded my motherboard to a 780i 3-way SLI board and added a 2nd 8800GT. I am still using my old E6600 from well over 2yrs ago and it's served me well.

I am all set to upgrade my board to a newer CPU/SLI setup, but I am just waiting for the higher end cards to come down. At this point I think people are right in saying it isn't worth it. My next upgrade is to a Quad-Core of some kind I think.

I was where you were a few weeks ago, but I put forth an initiative to clear out my 10 deep backlog in the span of 2 months and I did before dead space hit. So all I have on my plate so far is fable 2, mass effect (Very LTTP on that one) and now Fallout 3....yeah I dunno if being 3 deep in RPG'S is any better though haha.
 
Damn...seems like the game is looking solid. However I'm just too tired to venture out to Wal-Mart at this point...I am going to keep my impulses at bay until I get some more impressions.

PS: How does it look in THIRD PERSON? AWKWARD like Oblivion?
 
My roommate and I picked it up at midnight at Wal-Mart. For some reason they only had two copies, but we got one of them so that works. :D

It's not silly looking, but it's not really playable. It's fine for running around but in combat when you aren't using VATS you really need first person.
 
LOL Bethesda don't have PS3 friends on their PS3.

Anyway, I have just finish fallout 1 and 2. What the ageing games are.
I will buying for my PC when new graphic card come.

Yea that's what I've been reading, along with real-time combat not being as effective as VATS and most play with VATS...

What about third-person top-down view? Do you think that would be playable? It's apparently possible to zoom all the way out and up.

Real time combat isn't supposed to be as effective as VATS, that's the whole point of having it. Saying that, last night I was accosted by 3 mole rats and as a challenge, tried to take them out in real time. Took out the first 2 and then finished off the 3rd in VATS as it got a little close for comfort.

Nifty...kinda like the older Fallout games? That would be interesting if you could essentially play that way. I guess I better sleep on my dilemma. One of my favorite things about the game is the art direction, hands down. 1950's post-apocalyptic wasteland? can't beat it.

They must have taken this out of the 360 version, it's not possible. It wouldn't be playable anyway, the reason you need first person is because you'll be searching boxes and crates on shelves, in desks etc. It'd be very hard to see what is there.

Yeah, the description sounded cool, and Bethesda did manage to nail the cinematic aspect down pat in general.

Aye, that's what I figured. For a top-down perspective to really work, they generally have to build the world in such a way that you can basically see everything there is to see.

Third-person view was included for one reason: so that you can swap to it to take a look at your character wearing his or her latest outfit.
Sexy lingerie, Power Armor, etc.
 
Just escaped the vault! Snapped some screens, runs silky smooth with every option maxed at 1680x1050...

Yeah that's what I use it for. You see plenty of your character in third person using VATS so I don't tend to swap often.

This dude was like help me my mom is getting attacked by roaches and i said "Fuck off" to him and he was like "Fuck you bitch" and then i brought out a pistol and shot him in the leg and he came at me with a switch blade and i used VATS which is AWESOME AS HELL to shoot it out of his hand and then he started crying and i BLEW HIS FUCKIN head off OMG and then i walked by the room and his mom was like "Help me son!" and i was like "Too bad i already killed him" and then i SHOT HER HEAD OFF TOO!

I have the same rig as you except for 2GB ram and Vista 32. Too lazy to do a clean install of Windows XP to upgrade to 64-bit. :P

Good to know it runs well. You forcing any AA? Or is there an AA setting?

Nice. Haven't encountered that one yet. There is so much stuff to miss if you aren't thorough though, I'm not even sure if I'll find it on my second run through.
 
So what chance do you guys think I'll have to get a CE tomorrow? I have a regular edition preordered but dammit something snapped today and I feel like I need the CE. Maybe it'll blow over tomorrow though. So any word on how limited these actually are?

If BB has them you have a good chance. With gamestop though its basically all reserved to preorders.

Well there are a few places I can try tomorrow. I work in a mall and there are 2 GS's and an FYE. One of the GS's still has Assassins Creed, Brothers in Arms, GTA4, and CoD4 LE's sitting behind the counter so maybe luck will be on my side.
 
I told you guys we'd be seeing perfect scores and GOTY awards.

Every single reviewer I've been talking to the last couple weeks hasn't been able to shut up about the game.
