The "Official" Japanese PSP Launch Thread (NSF56k)

If anyone's interested, that picture of the IGN cube editors you see in the PSP video is reallllllllllly popular on JP messageboards. I see that thing EVERYWHERE.

really? :lol

what do they think of that pic? what do they use it for?

So...if I wanted to import one when the import stores get them back in stock and for sale, is there any particular place that I should look for (Lik-sang, play-asia, ncs)?. Also, do any of those come with warranties in case Sony is up to it's old tricks again?

WTF?

This game is "indefinitely delayed" apparently...
perhaps not???

I have it on preorder, so i guess we'll find out soon.

Also, all rumours of the screen being downgraded are definitely false - the unit in Tsutaya (a "earthquake" unit) looked as God like as it did at TGS.

Preorder prices are getting ridiculous. Two of the three units that I had on ebay went buy it now at $499.99. They were value packs.

Looks like the girlfriend and I are gonna get much nicer christmas gifts than I thought!

The waiting is starting to get to me though. I mean, one week until Lumines and watching widescreen episodes of Lost on that screen. I think I might go into town in Osaka and see if I can find demo units.

Those save sizes really aren't bad at all, especially with the bundle. 32mb could last you quite a while. Well, if you don't plan on using the media side of things.

They're about what you'd expect from PS2 games, not surprisingly. 32 meg will be ample for quite a few PSP game saves but if they ever get into downloadable content for PSP games (or downloadable games) you're going to quickly want more.

>>This game is "indefinitely delayed" apparently...

No, you're right, it seemed pretty official that the game is delayed. The list is for "upcoming PSP titles" though, according to MagicBox, not necessarily launch titles.

Ah, i see. Cheers!

questions that have probably been answered to death but ill ask again anyway...

1. what is the US launch lineup looking like?

2. can someone explain the online multiplayer to me? does it even exist or is it speculation? free or fee?

1. Nothing is known about the US launch. We can speculate a bit about likely candidates for launch titles, but it's best that we don't. Disappointment and such...

2. Currently there isn't an "online" multiplayer. However, like DS, the PSP is perfectly capable of going online... it just needs someone willing to invest the funds to create a solid foundation for such online gaming. EA was rumoured to include an online mode for two players in its Need for Speed Underground Rivals, but currently it hasn't been confirmed (or denied, I think). If anyone has the funds to create an online network for a handheld, it's definitely EA.

too funny. That's great. Is that what jap-gaf-videogame forum users use? :lol :lol :lol Can someone refresh what got Peer looking so dismayed and then so excited? Pacman VS? :lol

Ridge Racers is the first game we've found so far to offer this unannounced multiplayer feature where only one system needs the game but Americans who think this will survive the translation to the US version will inevitably get the usual Hometek Smack down when their fantastic wisdom comes into play when it is removed, along with some other minor aspects of the game (like the driving sections)

fixed.

oh, man, that anime girl IGN editor pic is great

the depressed one is for Pacman Vs. revealed and "candid"
the excited one is for Zelda Cube revealed and "posed"

Didn't know it comes with the handstrap also.

I wonder if they killed the neckstrap idea.

Didn't you read the first post! :D

Also, that case looks a lot cooler up close than it did in those pics. A bit glittery for my tastes, though.

Nice impressions from Gamespot. Really dove in and put the system through its paces, as much as they could.

I just looked at the pictures :p

What'd it say about it?

jesus christ. the thing isnt even out yet but all you have to do is look at it and tell sony has yet another big winner on its hands. you cant resist it. you just cant.

with that BIG screen. jesus.

jiggle: It said the value pack would include a handstrap :P

Oh, I like that charging the battery completely takes approximately two and a half hours; an hour and a half less than it takes me to completely charge the DS battery. That's cool, I guess.

Gamespot reports that the earbuds are actually decent, I might pick up the value pack now.

I desperately need a screen guard though, I guess I'll get used to constantly placing it in it's pouch after I'm done.

Wow, with ever pic I see the wait gets longer. Good to see ear bud headphones are detachable. I got some nice big studio headphones that make me look like I'm really serious about what I'm listing to. :lol

Holy crap, those mods of the IGN pics are hilarious :lol
The large sizes of the PSP saves are because the data files now have large animations on the system screens... that's what the Ridge guys said in their interviews at least. Although 2 meg for the Gagharv save is pushing it a bit... hope it actually reads/writes quickly.

Next Sunday can't come quick enough now... I am dying to play Ridge and Lumines.

*twitch*

Goddamnit... need to stop looking...

*twitch twitch*

Hardware looks so hot...

*twitch, spaz*

Fuck you Sony...

where's all the Lumines footage / coverage at?
:lol I've been wondering this for weeks. All we've got was a website and a magazine scan. RR gets daily updates, Vampire Chronicle got a nice one. Throw us a bone here. :P Lumines wasn't even on the demo disc reels. :(

Dengeki PS2 has a special issue out this week called Dengeki PSP. It reveals some lumines stuff. Skins are a prevalent part of the game and are unlockable. The vs mode features some funny icons. Attack mode seems cool too.

I glanced quickly at The Playstation Magazine's The PSP special issue and it seems to have a Miz interview. However, I didnt stand around and read it because I was on the way to the grocery store for some gyoza goodness. If I track down a scanner Ill scan the Dengeki stuff and post it.
