Actually, the sizes for my PSP save game files are as follows:

Minna no Golf: 627KB
Dokodemo Issho: 636KB
Mojipittan: 33.6KB
Ridge Racers: 218KB

They're split into multiple files.

they took awfully long before closing there preorders, i wonder how many units they have secured for the first week or so and how long i will be waiting to recieve one (ordered in August)

I wondered the same thing. They didn't acually mention anything about the game sharing feature. It seem that both of the units they used hand the same games already in them so they just tested the wifi. Hopefully an article will pop up detailing something about it.
 
I've previously missed this part of the GS report

To note a few points in particular, the Games category has an option that allows you to play games on your memory stick, which wasn't a feature that was officially announced by Sony up until now (although its developers have hinted it in the past.)

It's pretty mind boggling if they are actually allowing software to run off of the memory card. Piracy seems almost inevitable if that's the case.

Perhaps the disc is still required to be in the UMD drive? The data on the memcard might be encrypted, and the disc has the decryption key (or something like that).

I'm going to buy 3 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duos. That'll cost me like 225 bucks.

*sigh* It's a lot, but after that I'll be set.
 
Damn, I just wish Memory Stick Duo's were a lot cheaper, it's just hard for my to fathom possibly paying more for a memory stick than a system :lol

But yeah, I think piracy is probably pretty inevitable.

I wonder if someone is gonna make a little HDD for this sucker that attaches through the USB port.

Yeah but it'd have to be a really clever USB HDD for it to be smart for portability.
 
is it generally safe to keep the charger plugged in while playing a handheld?

also, is it like a cell phone where leaving it charged for too long (overnight) that its actually bad for the system?
 
should be fine to leave it plugged in. Most likely the unit will simply stop accepting charge when the battery is full.

I don't know what cell phone you use, but mine also stops charging when its full. Fine to leave it plugged in overnight.
 
yeah the cell phones stop charging but ask any provider and they will tell you that when its fully charged, take the plug out. the batteries themselves will last longer (not the actual charge). also, let the battery get as low as possible before recharging.

Not that I don't trust you, but there are (and have always been) so many misinformation about the batteries and their charging behavior, that I'd like to see some proof for this.
 
actually I think he's right.

When the phone is full, it stops charging. But then after an hour or so on standby, it'll need some juice so it will start charging again.

The result is that you keep charging around 90-100% mark, which might affect battery life, or at least run you through the cycles more quickly.

A five hour average is only possible if you dim the screen brightness, even going by Sony's offical numbers.

I'll be happy with 4 hours for a game like Ridge Racer without having to dim the screen.

The only problem which immediately comes to mind is the fact that every time you touch that special material, you leave fingerprints on your system. For sure, the unit won't look that great after an hour or two, or worse after weeks of playtime, when showing them to your NDS friends and GBA SP buddies. You might have to consider bringing the bad boy to the car wash every week or two. The Lik Sang crew actually wore chirurgical gloves during the whole process of testing the unit and while performing the photo session.

When you format a Memory Stick with the PSP itself, you'll not only find it empty afterwards, there are some interesting directories on it. The existence of a games directory strongly suggests that Sony plans to enable users playing games directly off the Memory Stick. If these games will be trial versions, mini-games containing advertising, or maybe even commercial, is not clear at this point of time. This is not only good news for gamers, but also for friends and members of the homebrew community.

Ridge Racers:

• From power off to Namco logo and title: 16 seconds
• From selecting car/track to start the race: 14 seconds
• Exit the game back to car/track selection: 10 seconds

Dokodemo Issho:

• From power off to PSP logo and title: 20 seconds
• Starting game from title screen: 10 seconds
• Going back to title screen: 5 seconds

Mojipittan:

• From power off to title screen: 20 seconds
• No more waiting time

Minna no Golf:

• From power off to PSP logo and title: 24 seconds
• From character selection to start: 19 seconds
• Waiting between courses: few seconds only

Keep in mind that on the middle brightness setting (where that 4-6h quote is measured from) the screen should still look about as bright as most screens on PDAs (and probably DS as well). PSP's max bright setting is insane for handheld specs...
