I couldn't agree more about the looks. PSP looks more stylish, expensive and overengineered, than any PDA I've ever had a chance to see - all the while those PDAs being multiple times more expensive compared to it.One thing is for sure, out of the box, the PSP looks very stylish and is a very well-designed concept. Put it next to the NDS and it feels like one of those visions when past meets future. Mostly made of a special plastic with glass effect (you see yourself inside), with great attention to detail and with this beautiful PSP logo surrounded by a metallic circle at the back, the PlayStation Portable is sexy, no arguing about that.
PSP is actually smaller than DS. It's wider, but all other measurements are smaller, (especially when you compare it to opened DS where the difference becomes significant)WOW the PSP is only a little bigger than the DS... I WANT!!!

Thanks for the answers

Enter a word in one language, and that bird will regurgitate it back in another selected language.
TTP said:I believe is more like a real time translator with voice recognition funtionalities. You talk into the yet to be released PSP microphone and Talkman should attempt to understand what you just said and translate that.
jiggle said:If it is, i hope there's at least the option of entering the words manually. Sure as hell don't want to go thru the Lifeline torture all over again.

Those are the ones I'd get the most use out of.

not too bad I guess
During the conference, SCE presented an innovative translation program for the PSP called Talkman. Currently in development, Talkman will be able to interpret nine different languages with voice output.
I refuse to believe that Play-Asia, Lik-Sang and IGN have had the device on their hands for over a day now, and they all haven't bothered to find the truth about the battery life - even with movies only.

Anyways any solid news on the battery life?

Mrbob said:No. I think it is listed around 2-3 hours while watching movies.
IGN said:SCE announced earlier this week that the system would be capable of 4 to 6 hours battery life when playing games and 4 to 5 hours when viewing movies off the UMD.

July 12, 2004 - Sony Computer Entertainment intends to turn the PSP into more than just a game machine, as revealed at a press conference held today in Tokyo. At the conference, the company announced Talkman, a translation program.
Talkman accepts verbal input via a headset microphone. Speak some words in one language and the software instantly translates them into the specified language of your choosing. The game lets you select from different situations and nine languages. A bird character called Max interacts with you as you play.
SCE refers to Talkman not as productivity software, but as an application that's filled with entertainment value. The game's producer at Sony Computer Entertainment R&D 2 commented, "This is software that makes conversing with people throughout the world possible. However, the PSP is a game machine, so making a plain translation program wouldn't be interesting. So, we decided to make a translation program that's filled with entertainment value."
At the conference, SCE demonstrated Talkman's "Hotel" situation with translation to English. When Japanese words were spoken into the microphone, Max held up a Japanese flag. Once the phrase was finished, the game managed to display a textual version of what had been said. Following this, Max displayed an American flag as he spoke the equivalent English phrase.
Outside of pure translations, Talkman lets players play games to test their fluency of a language. One game asks players to read text and gives them a rating based off their pronunciation.
It remains to be seen just how robust the translation and voice recognition aspects of Talkman are. We'll have to actually get our hands on the title before we can determine that.
As with all other PSP software, a release date has yet to be set for Talkman.
