Anybody ever watch this?

They often show very, very interesting documentaries.

Tonight:

Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 10:00 p.m.
The Power of Nightmares (part 3)

Conclusion of a three-part series, examines whether our perception of a global terrorist network is an illusion created by politicians.
Parts 1 and 2 were great, analyzing the simultaneous mobilization of neo-cons in America and fundamentalists in the middle east, and how they compliment each other. Anyone interested should check it out

Yeah they show really good documentaries. I just watched one that they were showing about a British journalist going into the middle of the warzone in Iraq called "Mission Accomplished". Crazy stuff, he filmed some angry guy in a mob that had a grenade in his hand threatening to blow him up. Thanks for the tip about the three part series, I'll check it out.

I caught the second part of this documentary last night and it is AMAZING. Can't wait to see part 3 tonight. Everybody should watch these as it really puts A LOT of things into perspective and makes a lot of things make a lot of sense. BUT, I'd really like to see some of his sources as he makes some pretty big claims without any shots of a document or something like that that I'm used to :p

I'm not personally interested in a lot of stuff they show, but it's usually quality whether it's my cup of tea or not. Of course, I always flip to it when its a topic I'm marginally interested in and then a few weeks later, a co-worker's raving about some fascinating one they showed a week later.

I find the same. I might watch the show just once a month since most of it doesn't interest me, but only because of the subject matter and not quality. There's such a large variety that little of it falls along the lines of what I'd like to spend an hour watching.

The Power of Nightmares is excellent. Funny, harsh, and amazingly well edited. This ain't your average documentary folks. If you want to see the Neo-Conservative movement get a good kick in the teeth (or, if you're a bit NeoCon yourself and feel like being outraged), be sure to give it a watch. If you miss the CBC showing it's readily available for download.

As a bonus to ppl with Shaw digital cable a lot of the Passionate Eye docs are available as free mid-week OnDemand specials. Watched a couple of the "conspiracy" ones (not nut-bar conspiracy, but a cool actual delving into the somewhat obvious but still unsaid motivation of the moon landings) and a couple of sciencey ones and they were all great. Nice way to spend 10 minutes waiting for a phone call or something..

Dammit... after I posted in this thread, I thought "wouldn't it be cool if you could get these really cheap on-demand." I figured it was a pipe dream, but I guess it is a good way for Shaw to pimp the technology...

That makes digital seem a lot more intriguing (reason #1 is, as always, NFL Sunday Ticket). We gave away our box when we moved a few years back...

Tonights documentary is pretty astounding. It was about the belief that Al Queda never really existed in the form it was made out to be. There were no sleeper cells, no fortified bunkers, etc. It was the men around Bin Laden, and not much else. Tora Bora which was made out to be a massive fortress by the US, turned out to be nothing more than a few caves and ammo dumps, when the Northern Alliance entered them.

Yup, caught the 3rd part tonight, and while there started to be some repetition (I think he repeated his thesis like 4 times in just this part) it was still an incredibly provocative piece. It's totally cast EVERYTHING that's gone on in the past decade in an entirely new light, and so much damn stuff makes so much damn sense. Everything from the way government works down to the forum goers and what they say and how they say it. Absolutely incredible.
