The Skeleton Key: The Thread

Is anyone else out there anticipating the theatrical release of The Skeleton Key this Friday? I haven't seen a horror movie in quite some time...In fact, The Amnityville Horror was the last one I saw, so I'm looking forward to The Skeleton Key.

Just as a reminder for those who don't know...Here's a quick synopsis...

Caroline (Kate Hudson) is a young woman who takes a job helping an elderly wife care for her invalid husband. Disturbed by their odd behavior, Caroline begins exploring their vast mansion, armed with a skeleton key that unlocks every door in the house. What she discovers in the attic is terrifying.

While that description doesn't sound too great, if you watch any of the trailers, you might be interested. Personally I'll be taking my gal pal to the flick.

Are there any reviews out yet? Anyone else looking forward to it?

I like the old-school commercial, with the announcer describing the movie instead of just showing quick cuts and snippets of conversation. Seems like one of those movie commercials from the 70's.

The movie looks good too. Or maybe the way the commercial openly praises it is fooling me. :D

Yeah, the ace TV spots have sucessfully led me to believe that it might actually be decent, contrary to what my instincts say. There hasn't been a good horror flick in years, so we're certainly due for one. Seems unlikely that it'll be from Ehren Kruger and the douche who directed K-Pax, though.

They showed an extended trailer for this before Batman Begins and it looked pretty good.

None of the previews I've seen on TV have touched on this...but the movie focuses a lot on voodoo and black magic. If you liked The Believers and The Serpent and the Rainbow you might like this.

Now what I'm about to type is in the extended trailer but I'm going to black it out anyway just so people don't bitch...

What's cool is that Kate Hudson's character starts using the voodoo to fight back at the people trying to get her. Looks like it could be an interesting dynamic.

weird stuff in the attic is always scary, and I am a such a wuss for horror movies :(

I can't stomach most of them.

The commercial says it has a great/shocking ending. Anyone know it yet?

The movie focuses on the house where Kate Hudson's character, Caroline goes to work. The history of the house includes the original owners some 90 years before who had 2 children and servants, a couple named Papa Justify and Mama Cecile. Justify is a powerful Vooduin priest.

(note, Hoodoo, which they use in the movie is very simple spells and practical magics like love spells or cleansing spells. Voodoo is a bastardized version of Vooduin and incorporates aspects of the Roman Catholic faith, such as their saints. Vooduin was the original craft and has a much darker tone too it.)

What Justify has discovered through his practice is immortality. What Justify and Cecile do is switch bodies with the person they wish to sacrifice. So, while Caroline is taking care of this elderly man she assumes has had a stroke and is obviously terrified of his own wife, the old woman of the house (who is actually Cecile) is planning to switch bodies with her.

That's the ending, the 2 "ghosts" of the house aren't ghosts at all. They are very evil people who, using Vooduin, manage to live on forever. There ya go, now stop whining heh.

That's the ending to Advent Rising, don't try and confuse us.

The character (your brother / fiancee) you chose to abandon comes back after the credits and disrupts the galactic council, and is now transfigured by the Seekers with the powers gained through humans. Gideon and Marilth fight back and Gideon sends the character back to an unknown location. Everything is good, until suddenly Gideon is sucked into the portal as well.

Waking up, you find Gideon on a desolate planet in extreme cold. Not knowing what to do, Gideon is forced with the task to simply Survive...

Slowly you crawl forward, unknown of your destination, knowing you are soon to die by this harsh cold. You soon collapse...

Suddenly, a figure appears and picks you up, telling you simply that "there is much more work to be done"...

I was too busy rolling my eyes to the "IT'S ALL TRUE" promo to garner interest in this movie. Call again when you aren't a shitty horror film trying to get audiences on bogus claims of authenticity.

Are they really doing that? I don't recall the trailer making any pretense that it was a true story, though I haven't seen any of the TV spots.

And demi -- where'd you get the spoilers from?

So, The Skeleton Key is out today...For those who have seen it, what did you think? I haven't seen it yet, but I probably will.

Also, where are the reviews?

I liked it a lot. Great twist :)

I'm afraid that I know the twist already without even seeing the movie. Or reading it in spoilers. It just seems predictable from the previews but I don't know. I still have to set up a date when I can take my girlfriend to see it.

What is it then? We will debunk it, if it is wrong.

The good: Kate hudson is incredibly hot in this

The bad: Everything else

It's really silly and you can see all the jump scares coming from a mile away

I'm not positive but here goes...

The old lady, what's her face...She's in the previews...Rowlands is her last name maybe? Anyway, I think she has something to do with everything "scary" that's going on in the movie. Like she's the root of it, and she made her husband that Kate Hudson is taking care of, the way he is.

So am I right?

You're on the right track, missing another piece.

I like watching these kinds of movies with 'slow' people because I gets mad respek when I explain what happened at the end. The trailer/commercials were also enjoyable. I approve of this movie. And big ups to Kate Hudsons tittays.

This movie's friggin' great -best I've seen so far this year. Everything makes sense in the end the tone is perfect. Ace. Loved it uexpectedly.
