But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.”
Matthew 16:23

Bah, June 7th is too far away. Shit, May feels a long ways off right now.

So does anyone know if this album is uhh..."out"...yet?

Looking forward to hearing it.

Only thing that's out is a rip from XM radio UK--Blue Orchid.

It.

Fucking.

Rocks.

Heavy guitar, a little better drumming, some production magic, and Jack singin' in falsetto. I'm in love.

Hmm, okay. I'll try to find Blue Orchid on Soulseek this weekend. I really hope Meg has varied her drumming a bit on this album. I think she should hear the debut album from The Evens and get some inspiration.

Alucard--check your box, duder. :D

As for hoping her drumming get more varied, well, keep hoping. It's a little more effective, but nothing stunning. It's the fact that Jack knows how to make the guitar work for him so well that brings it together.

and so help me christ, if I see one "PM" request in this thread, I'm gonna kick some ass

*tips hat*

I'm digging Blue Orchid. Very cool, I like that it's something a bit different. I'll definitely be picking this album up on day one, which I very rarely do.

I think I'm listening to Blue Orchid... I don't see what's so awesome about it. I find it pretty boring actually.

Boring is going a bit far for me, but it lacks a hook for me. I think the general beat and guitar riff of the thing are catchy, but it lacks the "wow" factor of Seven Nation Army and Fell in Love with a Girl. It's just...nothing special.

For me it was boring at first but it must be growing on me - I was humming it while throwing the football with my Dad :lol. OT, beautiful weather outside :D!

Holy moly. I'm really, really excited.
Little Ghost? I wonder if this is a followup to Little Bird with the same kind of guitar playing? If so... kick ass!!

Is it just me or does "Blue Orchid" sound like Death From Above 1979 with that dude from the Scissor Sisters doing lead vocals? Weird.

I can agree with the Scissor Sisters comparison a bit, but LitigationManuel put forth the notion it felt a little bit like Eagles of Death Metal.

Fell in Love With a Girl sounds like a really bad Buzzcocks song.

Indeed I did say this. Didn't like it much at first probably considering the change from their normal sound, but it's definitely grown on me. Great song, looking forward to the album.

Wow... the new single sounds, uh... different. No southern rock influence whatsoever.
Sounds like Death From Above 1979. What gives, Jack White??

As I've mentioned before, it sounds like this album is going to be a lot more experimental than any of their prior albums (including elephant!) Check out the track-by-track rundown linked in the OP, gives a little more insight than I can regurgitate.

But even really bad Buzzcocks songs are better than everything else on the radio.

And, this is generally against my principle, but could somebody shoot me a leak of Blue Orchid? I'm deathly curious to know what this sounds like.

Hooooo~

Blue Orchid is muthafuckin' HOT!

This is tons better than Seven Nation Army/Fell in Love.

Wow, this has just been on repeat alongside "Feel Good, Inc." by Gorillaz.

It certainly isn't bad... and it wouldn't hurt for the Stripes to branch out a little. After all, I think they've damn near exhausted the punk/blues/western vibe that's so embedded in all of their albums (up until this one of course).

I would've loved to hear an album done live, kind of like the John Peel session they did back in 2001. Jack White has proven to be sometimes (but not always) better live than in the studio. "Death Letter" from the Peel Session is unbelievable.

That makes me wonder: has anyone ripped Under Blackpool Lights to mp3 from the DVD yet? And if not, how would one go about doing so?

The song is good. A little short and lacking in variety, but good. I can't jump on the "THIS SONG FUCKING ROCKS" train though. It's rockin' and fun, but nothing that's truly great.

Can't wait to get this in June. May's so far set with the new NIN and Aimee Mann albums (pleus probably some other stuff I'm not aware of yet) and I'm still enjoying the new Beck and QotSA albums (need to get that Fiery Furnances EP and Patrick Wolf album in the meantime). :)
