US Grant, actually.

Dubya IS a close second. I have full faith in the boy if he is elected to a second term- he will not allow the chance to go down in history as the Worst President Ever to pass him by. So there's still hope!

Warren G. Harding and Ulysses S. Grant are pretty much in a dead heat for worst ever. Nixon isn't far behind.

As bad as I think he is, Bush isn't even in their league.

Nixon was the worst, by far. The man was plotting to have journalists assassinated, he was that violent and insane. Junior isn't a patch on him for pure evil.

Grant
Nixon
Lincoln (if only for the states rights issues and suspension of habeus corpus)
GWB
William Henry Harrison (though I suppose the argument could be that he's only the most mediocre president since he did nothing)

GaimeGuy

Volunteer Deputy Campaign Director, Obama for America '16
Jimmy Carter. a fucking peanut farmer became president just because he was a nice guy.

Well, he barely even counts. He was President for only 31 days, and he was ill for every one of those days as he caught pneumonia on the day of his inauguration.

We are the mediocre presidents
You won't find our faces on dollars or on cents
There's Taylor, there's Tyler, there's Fillmore and there's Hayes!
There's William Henry Harrison - "I died in thirty days!"
We are the adequate, forgettable, occasionally regrettable
Caretaker presidents of the U.S.A!

What? Nothing for Gerald Ford? Well, ok, he was so bad even his own party didn't help him much, so he was unable to screw over the country. He just didn't do jack shit.

He was just a big nothing. There's a difference between being insignificant and being genuinely bad.

Oh so many to choose from. Nixon is the obvious choice but there were so many lunatics that I'll won't do justice to them by saying him.

...was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He tried to do stuff to stop the depression, but it didn't work. That was a failure, but one can't blame him for the whole depression.

Jimmy Carter. a fucking peanut farmer became president just because he was a nice guy.
He was the better of the two at the time.

He was only good at foreign policy.

I'm the first to mention this Indian killing idiot?
Nah, that was a mistake, but he did a lot of good stuff. It's not like he was the only one who wanted to kill the Native Americans either...

ferrets ferrets ferrets ferrets FERRETS!!!
Well, there was a scandal where a bunch of Grant's subordinates allegedly embezzled $3 million from taxes (in 1860's money mind you), but Grant ended up pardoning them all before they could face real charges. So it wasn't that he was corrupt -- his administration most definitely was, though.

I just read up on Buchanan -- man, he really was a bad President.

Grant also accepted "gifts" from wealthy supporters, used military power to enforce harsh and accelerated Reconstruction in the South, and was rather notorious as a drunkard.

A better poll might be "Who the fuck were our GOOD Presidents"?
That poll would probably degenerate into the typical political flame war unless you excluded most 20th Century presidents. :)

Nixon shouldnt't be considered as one of the worst presidents of all time. Although he did do some very stupid and illegal things, he also gave us the Enviormental Protectional Agency, drafted a universal health care plan that (till now) only Hawaii has put to use (and it works), and did some pretty fine diplomacy in breaking two decades of silence between the United States and China. Its a shame he was also an asshole, huh?

He's considered by some to have been the last liberal President...how depressing is that?

As for worst ever...Hmmm...For now I'd have to put GWB. He sent us into a war that wasn't needed...He has pissed away the federal surplus that was given to him all while giving the ultra rich big time tax cuts...He'll leave (oh yes, he will) office with the distiction of having lost more jobs than when he started - the last president to do that was Hoover...Just last week it was announced that there are 45 milliion people without health care...In 2003, 35.9 million people were in poverty, up 1.3 million from 2002....Jesus he sucks.
