The xbox 360 commercials

What the hell is wrong with Microsoft. I was on gametrailers.com watching the US commercials, and they are horrible (the jump rope one and the water balloon fight one). Meanwhile, in Japan they have an incredibly awesome commercial with The Rolling Stones playing and actually showing the product. This one can be seen here. Why didn't Microsoft use that commercial in the US as well?

Yeah this hasn't been covered before.

Not!

You have no vision.

A true lack of artistic creativity.

When you were in elementary school, were you content with receiving a D or worse on your art projects?

You don't even deserve to own a television.

They need to push the system hard now in Japan. It's not like they are going to breeze through their initial allotment like they are here in the US...

Here, all they're trying to do is build brand awareness for the future. Every last system will be sold between now and Christmas, they're sewing the seeds for a profitable 2006. At least, that's one theory.

Meh. Bottom line, people that will buy the system this year don't need commercials. How Microsoft further sells Xbox 360 to Joe Casual is not my problem.

Its a teaser trailer. Don't ever get into advertising.

It's a teaser trailer for what? A water balloon fight game? A jump rope game? The Japanese commercial stomps all over the other ones, so again I ask, why didn't they use it for the US as well?

OMG Its a viral teaser trailer for the brand and console name.

Like "U R Not (red)E" or "It's Thinking..."

You are obviously new to all of this. LIke I said, don't get into advertising.

As much as I like that GTrailers video.....I think the one aired in US is better suited. It symbolizes what the commerical is about....."jump in"

As in "join in the foray of Xbox live."

I think its saying "buy an xbox 360 to join the experience"

If you haven't already.....check out the Our Colony video...They taunted what Xbox 360 is all about...."experience" (of xbox live)

The "Jump In" looked cool, though it looked like something for sports apparel like Nike, they could have at the end shown the console itself. Even PS2's wack futuristic one featured the neat, "In the begining..." and a pan of the PS2 in almost monolithic form.

You generally don't use teasers when your product is coming out in two weeks.

Teasers are to build awareness when the product is still a while off.

For the people that need to see Xbox 360 commercials in order to get interested, the product is a while off. :D

When you are sold out through the holidays you sure do. :D

Yep.

These commercials get consumers ready for January or later when units will be available.

So why not use the Japanese commercial? Since I think it is a way better commercial, it would get consumers ready now or in January when supply starts catching up.

Obviously they disagree with you.

The 360 will likely have no trouble selling out to the hardcore gamers. For the mainstream (which they are targeting) the commercials seem right on time. People who would normally turn the channel immediately when they see a video game trailer will be inclined instead to watch the whole commercial. Even if it's totally unrelated the commercials can be catchy and inspire people who would normally care less about M$ games or consoles to take interest.

The casual gamers and soon to be gamers will be the ones buying the console in the long run. I'm sure you'll see in due time ads from M$ about Live Arcade capabilities. That may draw in a portion of the huge online puzzle/arcade gaming scene, largely women.

I dunno, it must work, since companies keep using the tactic, but I never really found the "brand awareness" commercials to have any sort of effect on me. How do people throwing water balloons get me interested in a videogame console? Maybe it's because I already know about it, I dunno.

It's like those Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" commercials. Sure, they're funny as hell and I love listening to them, but they certainly don't make me want a Bud Light.

I would agree with people turning the channel when a videogame commercial comes one, but the Japanese commercial is not a typical videogames commercial either. It doesn't show videogame characters running around or anything like that. It's a great commercial. Seeing the ring of light being drawn with the Stones playing might draw people in, then in the end they show the 360. Great commercial.

Can we please set "M$" to auto-censor? It's gone from somewhat amuzing to pathetic.

If that bothers you then that's the least of your concerns. Methinks it may be time to take a break from the forums, from the pc, etc. etc.... :)

It's not that it bothers me, it just that I question why they wouldn't run a really good commercial instead of what I think are stupid commercials that aren't going to get people to want to drop serious money and steal marketshare from Sony or expand their xbox marketshare.

He was talking to Manabyte. :)

And others think the commercials are fine. We all have different opinions.

The Japanese commercial with the Rolling Stones music is great. Last time Microsoft used the Rolling Stones in a commercial it worked out pretty well for them. They should definitely release that commercial worldwide.

Where can I download the Xbox comercials? (US versions)

Yea, I figured out he wasn't talking to me right after I posted but I just left my post alone because of the point I made in it. And part of what I am trying to figure out is what makes the US commercials fine? I know everyone has different opinions, I'm just trying to see how someone can think the US commercials are better than the Japanese one, which they should have used as I think it does a much better job of introducing the customer to the xbox 360.

First one is right here and the second one is right here.

Teaser trailer = ! = good commercial

There are good and bad teasers, you realize? I can see why most viewers would like the PS9 commercial (which I've never seen before), though I didn't personally like it (over the top self-propaganda). But the 'jump in' teasers are just lame. The first part (jumping rope or water balloons) has a rather tenuous relationship to the second part (Xbox 360) and just results in a big WTF. You know what they're trying to say, but it's such a stupid way to do it.

I just saw the jump rope commercial on Discovery HD in full widescreen HD glory! Surely, the very first HD videogame commercial, no? The X360 logo animation at the end looked so crisp and vibrant that it was positively breathtaking. :D
