got a question : If you die, and you soul doesn't exist anymore...what does it feels like ? Can you even imagine not to exist anymore ? That absolutely NOTHING happens ? I can't, so I think there is something after death.

DopeyFish

Not bitter, just unsweetened
i was thinking about this

everyone is the same person

conscienceness is the same

so when you die you will be reborn as someone else

it's your experiences that change who you are

What did you think of when you were in your mother's womb?
Can you remember being without any memories ? You'd be a different person without your memories...doesn't have to do much with you question but it's a difficult topic.

Chili Con Carnage!
I got the insider connections on this, someone connected closely to the afterlife let me in on the secret.

All i can say is that you wont be disapointed, NDAs expire day you die so i cant say till then.

If you are reborn as a different person, what makes you "you" ? Most if not almost all of your personality comes from your experiences.

You believe there is an afterlife just because you can't comprehend the lack of one?

That's some interesting logic you've got working for you.

I like to think that the sum of our parts cease to work as a whole but those parts live on.

We don't think or feel anything, but we're still something. We break down - and some point in the future (be it tomorrow or in millions upon millions of years) - we're a part of something else. We're always there.

Who knows, if the universe shrinks and explodes ad infinitum maybe reincarnation is scientifically possible in some way...

The facts of life.. I'm cool with it. Unless we're all swallowed up by a gaping void of anti-matter. In that case, we're fucked.

Yeah that's right. BTW logic ends when you die.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing after death. However, it's dumb to let it depress you, everyone shares the same fate...

once someone explains how "souls" were created then i will stop believing in an afterlife.

Why do we die?

why are we born?

I doubt the answers are logical.

yet it also proves everything.

Perhaps we cannot 'remember' what it was like before birth because of the illusion which has been pulled over our eyes?

Is it possible that we've existed for millions of years, simply reincarnating? Can it not be that everything we learn in life is not for the first time, but rather we are simply recalling it?

You know, there is a certain way of looking at things, a certain way of thinking, that says that we are all interconnected at fundamental, core level. Birds, planes, trees, dildos, used car salesmen, bacteria and even soap. Everything except Olimario. So when you "die" you just start being something else which is the same thing that you were before and always will be. Interconnected! Now you see.

Now, this way of thinking CAN be reached without the use of serious psychotropic drugs, but I for one don't recommend it. Far more fun the other way.

Why ? You aren't connected to time anymore when you loose your body...
@Boogie : TY
Well, maybe you are not only still connected, but maybe even part of it.

Yeah, that's the most sensible position. Usually it's also mine. But sometimes these questions just come into your mind.

If there was no such think as a soul.....all our actions would be dictated by logic morality would not factor in. There would be no wars. no money no anything.

...Okay then...I'm pretty sure you're going to have to prove that "souls" exist before anybody can step in and say how they were created.

Just saying, it'd help.

I am beginning to understand the rules of this thread. I'm going to try it out, somebody let me know whether I've got it right.

I was reading a science magazine while getting a haircut another day, and it had an interesting mathematic theory on this. Assuming the pulsating universe model (explosion-expansion-collapse-explosion), at some point of time, as time approaches infinity, the universe will explode in the exact same composition as it is now, meaning that in technical terms, you are reborn. The odds for this happening are, of course, absurdely small, but given time that approaches infinity, it will happen. No knowledge transfer included in this, however, so you have to start all over again - be fooled by Federman's Megaton again, read the gazillion Revolution speculation threads again, post this thread again...

whatever is stopping you from raping every hot chick you see (assuming there is no way you would get caught) is what i would call a "soul" and if you call it somehting else so be it ...but whatever it is, it exists.

Only the ones with Kuroyume, Konex, and Drensch in them :p

Can you give any line of reasoning behind your "logic ends when you die" comment?

Really, nobody knows what comes after death, what it entails, etc.

There's no point in fretting over something you can't stop. The best thing for anyone to do would be to fret over life. If you spend your entire life fixated on the goal (knowledge of death), then you'll never reach it. The key to figuring out the puzzle lies in experiencing the journey.

If you believe there is something after death, PLEASE come up with something better than "i can't imagine what it would be like not existing."

There's a billion other reasons you can say, even if they're not scientifically supported. But that? Worst reason ever.

As for me, I can say that death is a lot like sleep, except you never dream.

it's all speculation as to what's beyond and what isn't. it always will be, or at least in this plane of existence. while it's infinitely interesting and intellectual to discuss it i'm not completely sure if it's possible to gain some sense of self or closure or security on life with it. even if you come to a conclusion, the chances are quite good that you'll still have doubt because you used logic to question everything at first. i question existence and life on a minute-by-minute basis and have come to the conclusion that it really doesn't matter. as much as we hope for something to be real, or for there to be some eternal and blissful realm beyond this one, it is truly impossible to know. we can try to find it all we want; the future, the afterlife, whatever you want to call it, but how will it help us? my life has taken a lot of ups and downs and i'm dealing with countless internal conflicts but what does it matter if something is in the future? or if there is an ideal "God" based on the current monotheistic religions? it won't help me get through what's going on now. the only thing that we know for sure is that we are existing at this very moment, all of us at the same time. we can hope for something magical and supernatural to come over us and make this "reality" more than we think it is, but how long will we have to wait? and will the wait even be worth it? we have now, and it's difficult to get off of our lazy asses and do something about it, to make this reality greater for ourselves, but i believe it's what has to be done. even if you know about the afterlife or the future you're still here right now, and you still feel what you do right now, and are still sensing and experiencing everything that you are at this instance in time.

my blog has more on my "existence" and "perception" argument if you're interested.

so, hypothetically, after you die there's an infinite expanse of beautiful land with an old man on a throne at the top of a mountain and everyone dances and smiles and laughs and sings together. what are you doing to do about that at this very moment?

as for the dream thing from Amir0x, take a look at the movie Waking Life if you haven't already.

Time only exists if you are materialized (light included). With no time, there's no proper logic we could know. (FYI : There are even particles, neutrons or whatever they are called that are supposed to exist independent from time...).
