Releasing March 2017, They Shall Not Pass* will be the first Battlefield™ 1 expansion. Featuring all-new maps, new weapons, and the new playable French Army faction, They Shall Not Pass will truly expand the theater of all-out war.

Though we don’t want to give too much away at this point we have something special for you: concept exploration images from the DICE team. These images represent the studio’s vision of the battlefields you’ll encounter in They Shall Not Pass. Read on and learn what inspired the charred landscapes, muddy trenches, and close-quarter environments.

Around 1 million shells were fired in the opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun. This created massive forest fires around the fortified city and the battlefields surrounding it. Soldiers tell stories of being able to see these fires from far away. We really wanted to capture this initial fighting in a battle that came to be known as the Devil’s Anvil.

The initial fighting around Verdun quickly transformed villages like Samogneux and entire forests into shadows of their former self. Verdun turned into the longest battle of the war lasting 9 months which completely transformed it. We wanted our players to be part of these initial intense attacks in the cold February of 1916.

The stories of the heroic garrison inside of Fort Vaux inspired us deeply, they fought a tough battle for every inch in the dark in these underground corridors. Down here in the maze of dark galleries the French and Germans fought ferociously with grenades, flamethrowers, and poison gasses.

Some 40 million artillery shells were fired over the course of the battle at Verdun, pulverizing the ground, turning the earth into a shattered lunar landscape. And underneath some of these trenches, tunnels and underground fortresses provide for new experiences yet unexplored in Battlefield 1.

In contrast to Verdun the Battle of Soissons in late 1918 inspired us to create a new set of maps that captures the massive French tank assaults. The fighting revolves around key bridges over the Aisne River and something big lurks around the village of Fismes.

Looks like maybe some more open field combat and trenches. Wish this was out sooner.

That sounds like the exact opposite. I hope they go over the top with the smoke and fire effects in the above ground portions.

Gorgeous art. I've been holding out for a decent sale but might have to splurge and pick up the game before Christmas. My roommate has it and I always have a good time watching him play.

Love it. But I'm done paying for season passes so sadly I'll live vacariously through those that do. Though I hope many of you don't either. Gated content that splits communities belongs in the past.

The historical background behind these maps makes me much more interested in the DLC, plus BF1 is bloody awesome. Hope premium gets a good sale sometime soon though, I'm not paying the same for add ons as I paid for the game.

EA has been pretty good with not putting their season passes on sale before all the content is out. You will be waiting for a while for that sale - all of the DLC needs to be out first.

Still better to wait for a discount on some retailer's website or an available discount code (e.g. PSN) rather than buying now, when literally the only reason to do so right now is in getting those Premium battlepacks earlier ;-).

I'll wait till the first expansion releases and then I'll buy if I don't get a discount in some form beforehand.

Yeah I'm not expecting one before the first few DLC's, but I think by the time the third DLC came out for BF4 there was a very good sale on premium, but I guess it will depend on how many buy it. I miss the days when DLC came out at a reasonable set price for everyone, and we weren't cajoled into buying everything up front.

That concept art seems off. This is how I imagine the map will look when it's actually being played.

Yeah, about that... the season pass was 30% off on Origin last week. Or rather they had a 30% off coupon that worked on the season pass.

DICE and EA are completely fucked. They have released sub par server tools (sub par is an understatement) and instead of giving us news on when we can expect things, they release news on DLC that isnt coming out for another 3 months. And the game is currently hemorrhaging players.

So 2 Verdun-based maps? One in open country and one at night for a full trench map. And Fort Vaux and Soissons maps.

This will likely be the first MP DLC I ever buy.
Anyone know the season pass price in UK?

Same. Love this game.

Also I'm probably in the minority who liked Locker. It was crazy, dem aggressive choke points.

Im sure the people in charge of the dlc release schedule are the exact same people in charge of server tool issues.....
Can we get a WW2 expansion please? I'm burned out on WW1 after 60 hours. I want some helicopters.
I don't think you are getting any choppers in WW2....

To be fair, the new map looked amazing in videos too but after playing it, i really dont like it. So doesnt mean much really.

I don't think it works good at all in Conquest, but I had pretty fun in Rush on it (I am bummed it didn't use the last part of the map, ended at the crashed airship). Just a minor complaint is that the attackers have to run down some hills in an almost completely open field for like 2-3 bases, which is a dream come true for a sniper team.

I still managed to get ~65-10 running a shotgun on that map the first time. As long as you managed to get past those open fields and get a flank on, it was like hitting the jackpot!

On PC?

Sounds good.

Damn so many games on my PS4 I've been neglecting my progress. Paid over $100 for the Origin best edition, too. I think I'll go hard on it over the Christmas weekend at least.
