Carjacking becomes one wild ride

Flint (01/06/05)-- A motorist went for a wild ride in Flint Thursday after he was carjacked. Flint police don't recommend you do what the motorist in this story did.
About 7 a.m. Thursday, the driver of a Ford Mustang was carjacked in the area of Fenton and Atherton roads.
The driver, whose name is not known, jumped onto the trunk of his car, grabbed the rear spoiler and hung on for his life.
The carjacker led police on a chase through the snowy streets of Flint. The chase lasted about a half hour, winding down 12th Street, Lapeer Road, Dort Highway, I-69 and I-475. The owner held on through it all.
Several people called police on their cell phones to let them know they saw a car slipping and sliding down the road with a man riding on the trunk.
The carjacker abandoned the Mustang at Hamilton and Lewis and ran through Kearsley Park, leaving tracks in the snow that made it easy for police to find him.
He was followed to a house on Kearsley Park Boulevard.
Police let the half-frozen victim warm up in one of their patrol cars.
"I was driving to the gas station. He stole my car. He told me to get out. He took off. So I jumped on the back and I held on for about 30 minutes," said the unidentified owner.
"I sat on my trunk, put my hands through the fin and I wasn't letting go. He did about 90 or 100 down 69 and 475."
Two men were taken into custody in connection with the carjacking.
The driver wasn't seriously injured during his wild ride, but he was very cold.
