Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow - Reveal Trailer | PS VR2 & Steam

Man, I LOVE Thief, their atmosphere has always been chef's kiss (dat Thief 3 orphanage level, shiiit) and even the PS4/XONE reboot was good (if you could manage to overlook the atrocious performance).

Not gonna buy a dead system (PSVR2) for this though, it's a shame that I won't be experiencing it but, it is what it is.

Honestly it looks like a sequel of reboot.

But with Stephen Russell in it.

Remains to be seen if they just make Garrett "The Eye" or if he comes back. The real one, I mean, the OG.

The reboot was bloody awful and casualised compared to the original greats from Looking Glass. I am curious how this title come about haha.
The reboot was a disappointment, indeed. The only good thing it brought to the table was the adjustments you could make for the games' difficulty. Was the first game I played that had such a menu.

However Thief, Thief 2 and Deadly Shadows are amazing games. And with mods still very playable today.

Yup, the community is amazing.

Tfixes, tafferparchers, hdmods.

This stuff is amazing.

Bentraxx has made really cool stuff with grass and wind simulations for NewDark back in the day. But dunno if he ever made it public.

VR-only version of a universally reviled franchise entry... What could go wrong?

Oh you're looking for Thief? Look no further.

It's amazing community, they did this in 1998 engine which blows my mind.

Dunno what has happened with this dude or if he is active.

But his mods were amazing.

Yeah, I bought it on sale quite recently.

Didn't start the proper gameplay yet.

Booted it up, did some stupid stuff. Felt it will be really awesome. I recently saw it had a huge update. So I may give it a try once I finish two other games I'm playing right now.

Such a weird way of seeing Thief returning, if anything. Not sure what to make of it.
What usually happens with classic series returning as VR titles is that a VR developer/publisher asks the original IP holder to let them make a game, meanwhile the owners keep sitting on the franchise doing nothing with it.

It's also coming to Quest and SteamVR, and those systems are far from dead.

The reboot "had issues", so to speak, and a lot of them.

Was the end result a good game? No, it wasn't (I bought it, never completed it nor played more than for a few hours). But the fact that it even exists is commendable in its own way, given everything involved.

Gonna be a GOTY contender whenever it's fully complete. I decided to wait until it was done to play, but it's such an awesome project I urge everyone to support it early. Easily in my top 5 most hyped games. Everything I've played and seen of it is absolutely perfect. The creator is a huge Looking Glass fan and it shows. He understands what made Thief special.

It's hard for me to get excited about a new Thief title when the "VR" part feels like a big asterisk. Sure, it looks fine, but, there's no way I'm getting this or the hardware for it any time soon.

Anyway, I'll just go play the older Thief games and Gloomwood.

If it has upcoming game(s) that you want to play, it's not dead.

I'll definitely give this a shot on steamvr if it's any good. Unfortunately it sounds like it'll use the Thi4f world that was dull compared to the og trilogy. Also, the devs seem to have just a couple VR games with mixed reviews under their belt, so I'm kinda pessimistic about this getting the resources it needs to be a proper Thief game. I'd love to be proven wrong though. I've long thought that VR would be the best chance for Thief franchise to get back on its legs. I just can't see them making a full AAA title at this point.

from the trailer, the new narrative doesn't feel cool enough imo. The classic ones got that really cool feel/vibe to the story and characters:

Honestly, those trailers were ok back in the day but it looks like AI shit now.

Im blown away that in 2025 we still cant figure out how to "properly" include forearms for VR characters yet?
Plenty of games feature forearms (Skydance's Behemoth) or full body (Batman: Arkham Shadow), but it's hard to do without it looking pretty bad in-headset. I'd rather have just my hands than arms that behave all weird and janky, the brain filters them out in a few seconds anyway.

It's not dead if it's still getting games you like announced for it. Just don't expect big budget blockbuster exclusives. VR is too small for expensive exclusives. Besides, if you have a PC in addition to a PS5 it's a hell of a headset for it there too. it can never really be "dead" even if PS5 VR games stop getting announced every State of Play for whatever reason. Ive had something to look forward to most of the time (Metro Awakening was the previous VR announcement that was awesome). very much looking forward to Theif now.

I think VR owners are in for a treat. What they showed looks perfect for VR and how they've implemented it.

For me? lol vr. Wish this did have a non vr version but this was clearly built for VR so it wouldn't translate well without it.
