Going to visit my girlfriend for the first time since she moved out to North Carolina to teach (initially for a year), she is going to be at school during the day so wondered if anyone had any advice on what i could do by myself during the day, things to do, places to see etc.

Thanks :)

Edit: forgot to say that I'm travelling from England, so anything American will be novel and fun to do lol.

i felt like it was an empty city when I was there to be honest. the epicenter has some things to do but aside of that its big bank buildings and restaurants. not many retail stores.

Go to Discovery Place or the Aviation Museum.

I mostly only go to Charlotte when there's a good concert in town. If you're ever back in NC again, check out Asheville for good hiking and beer.

if you like beer there's a lot of good spots to check out, whether that be a brewery, bottle shop, or just a restaurant that has a good beer selection. some good local breweries are NoDa, Olde Mecklenburg, and Bird Song. Triple C and Sugar Creek are cool too.

really depends on what part of town you're in and what you want to do

on the off chance that you like disc golf there are a bunch of courses

You have to translate it into English english.

It's a little north of Charlotte, in Mooresville, but the GoPro Motorplex is awesome if you're into that sort of thing. Also check Yelp and get some good barbeque somewhere.

Do you like NASCAR? They have the Hall of Fame there.

I don't know where you're from, but if you don't have a Cook-Out Restaurant near you go to one they are super cheap and really delicious.

I will check out the places listed thanks everyone. Was going to see if they had any nice parks to visit and probably goto most of the museums.

Take a trip into the mountains. Charlotte is a glorified banking district.

If you're into active stuff, check out the Olympic Whitewater Center. It's awesome.

I wish there was more places like that.

Get Bojangles and Cook Out op

I've heard good things about Bojangles'.

Drive to Raleigh-Durham.

This. I mean, I have never had an urge to do anything in Charlotte. Go to Raleigh, hell drive the 3.5 hours north and go to Richmond for a day or drive to the coast if for nothing that to see the Atlantic from the other side, not really a good time of year this.

I have nothing against Charlotte, I just like all the stuff roughly 4 hours around it a lot better. The mountains, the oceans, and the better historical towns.
