So, let's hear it for blackouts! I was sitting here at my PC about 45 mins ago (typing up a long reply on this forum, which I lost, dammit!), and the power went out. Couple of minutes later, the power flashed on and then back off. Few minutes later power flash again, and then... pitch black for 45 minutes.
Blackouts are pretty cool though, after the initial panic I have "Oh shit, where's my flashlight; where are the candles and matches." Went outside and smelled the warm summer air. My neighbor next door and my neighbors from a couple of houses across the street came out of their houses to investigate, much to my surprise. My neighborhood is notorious for being completely dead to the world when bad shit happens. Major earthquake? Nope, nobody comes out. Huge car accident on the corner? Well, you might get a couple of people. Cops going up and down the street with a helicopter circling overheard with it's spotlight on? Well, maybe people should stay indoors when that happens, but I still like to go outside. Flip on my police scanner and hear all the cool shit happening as it's going down.
So, barring those shitty East Coast blackouts of last year, who else appreciates blackouts? While I was walking up the street to see how far the coverage was, I was thinking about the Twighlight Zone episode, "The Monsters On Maple Street."
