For those who don't know... From IMDB.com
Morgan Creek Productions fired Paul Schrader after he had submitted a completed movie, saying that he had given them "footage without any of the bloody violence the backers had wanted". He had already made it clear in interviews that he was making more of a psychological drama than an all-out gore-fest. He was fired and Renny Harlin was hired to re-shoot the movie. Almost 90% of the movie was re-shot and at least two characters have been dropped from Paul Schrader's version of the movie. However, Morgan Creek Productions stated in an interview on E: True Hollywood Story, that they will release Paul Schrader's version of the film on DVD in the near future.

Well Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, is going to be inlimited release this Friday, then on Dvd shortly after.
I'm not expecting this to make alot of money or anything, but this is unheard of, a studio releasing the movie after they reshot it with a diffrent director. It will be great for film students or just film buffs to analyze the same story ,that turned out completely diffrent, because of the director's vision.

Discuss.

The original version is supposedly very very good.
Rotten Tomatoes is full of negative reviews.

It might be an interesting case study to look at, but yeah, it'd be nice if that case study involved at least one good film. As Ebert discusses, watching Psycho and the Psycho remake has a similar effect but distilled to primarily differences in actors.

Never going to happen, a film, studios have faith in don't get remade after shooting is complete. The reason I think it will be intresting, is seeing the main actor play the same character completely diffrent.I'm also a film student, and a film buff, so it might just be me..:/

Well, I'm both a film student and buff as well, but I'm not sure that's enough to make me watch two shitty versions of an Exorcist prequel ;)
