So what do you call a person that doesn't necessarily believe in the God that different religions praise but still believe in some sort of higher power than us?
Spiritual? It kind of depends.

What was that show where the dude got the newspaper from the future and stopped bad things from happening before they happened?

Early Edition. I used to catch it during the day. It was ok.

So, what is the name of the technique used in lots of documentary films these days, where they take a photo, and make certain sections appear on different levels while they are panning across it? That's a pretty bad description, sorry. Is it a variation of the Ken Burns effect, or does it have it's own name?

Apparently hair grows out to a certain length and then slows down.

But when you cut your hair, how can your cells know that you've cut it and thus accelerate the growth until it reach that length again?

where the hell did you hear that?
Well if it wasn't the case wouldn't people get really hairy after a while?
Same goes for animals, when you shave their fur it will grow out to the length the non-shaved areas are at.

Your premise is flawed so the answer is, it cannot. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_...mming_hair_helps_it_to_grow_faster_or_thicker for a more detailed answer.

Every hair will grow a certain amount before falling out. When a part of an animal is shaved and the hair grows back the same length, that is just because hair falls out and is replaced at regular intervals.

I've had to go on some long drives throughout the province the last few months and this has been bugging me: Why is roadkill always on the side of the road? You'd think it would always be right smack in the middle of the highway where the animal got hit.

Looked up at the various hair growth cycles and that makes sense.

People move the animals to the side of the road?

I've considered that, but it makes no sense. No one is going to stop on the side of the road to walk in the middle of a 110km/h highway to move a dead animal out of the way.

Or maybe the animals are launched to the side of the road from the collision?
And smaller animals might get "spun" to the side if driven over.

Animals with intentions of eating the dead animal move it to somewhere safe to eat it. I've seen crows do it.

Considered this too, but always launch perfectly on the side of the road just outside the painted line? Also if anything they should be flattened in place much of the time

Makes a bit of sense, but why not into the woods where it's safer? Also don't think crows can really move a dead racoon, so it would have to be a coyote if anything and there aren't that many here.

What is the meaning of the GAF meme that says "G, A, F? (or G/A/F)", etc in thread titles?
About half the threads I have made have that I think :D It just means the thread will be about something that happened in Germany, Australia, or Florida and asks you to guess which one before reading the article. It started when GAF noticed all the weird news seems to come from G, A, or F.

Ahh! Thank you. :D

What is non-masonary type of construction material? It seems most of them are masonary: Concrete, Bricks, Blocks, Glass, etc...

Steel for frames

edit: wait, I guess that is masonary?

Yeah, and fabre composite, but there is not whole lot of them.

also, can someone expain to me how those could be descrbed as monolithic construction?

well, in these terms, its usually referred in context of an external face or wall of a structure. Steel and beams don't really count.

Can someone tell me why my recently purchased Panasonic 1080p display won't output at 1080p when I have my laptop plugged in through VGA? I've had another TV do this just fine, but my Mac won't let me set the resolution higher than 1400x1050. The higher options are there, but it always just reverts back to that resolution. Fuck.

Some random guy came to the bookstore I work at the other day and told me that in French, "peace" and "flatulence" are very similar. It's only the article that comes before the word that changes the meaning (I think he said the feminine form meant peace, and the male form meant fart).

Was this dude just making shit up?

Nope, 'la paix' and 'le pet' sound the same. Of course, you would have trouble mixing them up.

Another stupid question: how do I get my 360 to work with my speaker setup? The TV I just bought doesn't have a headphone jack for me to plug the subwoofer into, so I'm not sure how to make this work. In theory I could plug the the audio cables (I'm using component) into the subwoofer itself, but then they definitely wouldn't be able to reach the back of the TV.

To complicate things further, I'd also like my laptop to use the same audio source, but I REALLY don't want to get a receiver.

VGA can't carry an HD signal...
For your other question, if your tv doesn't have the ports you need to invest in a receiver or make the connecting cables yourself.

As I said, my Samsung display outputs at 1080p just fine when I have my laptop plugged into it.

I haven't watched Much Music (Canadian) for well over a decade.
What is the current state of music videos and music video channels? Is this something that is growing? Stagnating? Are any of them in HD?

Not that I have dreams of creating threads at this point, but being junior'd is perm right?

Not necessarily. I think -COOLIO- got juniored a while back but got his thread making privileges back. But he's a long time member, so it might be a while before you get de-juniored.

It shouldn't take that long, I thought it was six months or 500 posts, whichever came first, but you're past both those things. Were you ever a member?

Hello,

I was watching this guy do an amazing coloring job on a piece of Eva fanart and I got to a part that really fascinated me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUs8bVXp1dA&NR=1#t=5m29s

He makes the pattern using a tool, and then pastes it into the file, bends it, and then warps it to fit the shape of the skirt. But it happens so bloody fast I can't figure out what he's doing to color it like that.

Anyone care to shed some light, Photoshop-GAF?

This is not correct. Look in your manual for the TV, you may be selecting the incorrect resolution - one which the TV cannot display (should be mentioned somewhere in a table that shows input formats, ie VGA/HDMI/component). Some manufacturers do not display the exact resolution that corresponds to 1080p.

Post this in the EVA 2.0 thread please. Amazing.

Worth getting Office 10 when I already have 07?

Mind you, I can get it for free, but have to download it, blah blah, so just wondering if there is any point over 07 version.

I left a message on someone's voicemail on their office extension number, I hung up right after I was done speaking, but right after I did that I remembered hearing the automated voice saying "Press # after you finish speaking." Did the message save even though I didn't press # or do I need to leave another message?

Usually that voice says:

"Press # after you're finished leaving your message or just hang up."

So no, you shouldn't have to leave another one. I've never encountered a voicemail box that required you to press a button. Hanging up is usually fine.

Hello.

I just formated my pc after it's experiencing some "lag" problems. Out of nowhere, it would just stutter. A lot. And I have a i7 720, 6GB DDR3 ram.

So, what are the best free apps?

For example, last week I discovered Nitro PDF and I liked it a lot. And since I bought the membership at giantbomb, I can't use my download manager (orbit) to download the HD clips, even though I'm logged in.

What is the best download app (including streaming)? What else can you guys referrer to me?

Thanks!

What coloring part are you talking about? The shading? Most likely he's just painting with black on a new layer and then setting the blend mode to soft light and changing the opacity. Which can also be done manually in the brush settings if he's not using layers.

I'm not really sure what you're asking for. VLC can play streaming video files if you set it up right.
Run Ccleaner regularly to avoid slow downs if you don't already (Don't use the registry tools if you're not trying to get rid of something specific.)

Do people who work past the social security collection age still collect social security, even if they are still working in a smaller capacity?

Could someone point me to the tech support thread? I tried searching here and did the google method but I can't find it.

Alternatively, perhaps someone here could answer the question - my dad's computer is a mess and crazy slow. I did the best with my limited abilities to set it on the right path. I did a Malwarebytes scan, ran ccleaner, ran adaware, replaced explorer with Firefox and installed adblock and no script. Is there anything else I can do? Also, is it a potential problem that he's running norton anti-virus software in addition to Windows Defender? And finally, should I get rid of his current anti-virus and replace it or is Norton fine?
