Thoughts on Unlimited SaGa

Yeah, I know. But I got the chance to snag it last month for a whopping $3, and I figured what the hell.

I don't like it. At all. And I honestly wasn't bothered by the idea of any of the aspects of the game many complained about upon release. Until I played it.

Is it just me, or is everything in this game randomized? The whole movement system on that board game field thingie is completely random, and despite thinking I wouldn't mind it at all, I absolutely despise it. It's just too boring. I feel like I'm barely doing anything myself.

Then there are the spinning wheels. Which control everything. EVERYTHING. Why can't I just open a treasure box without spinning a wheel? And what the fuck does that third symbol even mean?! And why do I get no tutorial? I had no idea what the hell I was doing for the first 30 minutes, and didn't even realize how to open a treasure chest until I found it accidentally.

One great aspect is the soundtrack though, which is damn fine.

Did anyone enjoy this game? What am I missing, if anything? And is Romancing Saga any different/better?

Awesome soundtrack, and great artworks from Naora. Too bad the game is so.... untraditional.

Romancing Sagas and Saga Frontiers are quite different from Unlimited.

Some people did. Check out Joewoof's comments on the game on the GameFAQs USaGa board for some reaons to like it. Personally, I found things to like about it, but the whole thing was so poorly documented - and often sloppy - that I gave up on it eventually. And yeah, the soundtrack and art are lovely (heya, jiggle!).

Yes, and yes. It's much more fleshed-out, much more playable, and much better-documented. It's also more fun.

I wrote up semi-extensive thoughts on both, with some comparisons: USaGa | Romancing Saga
