That last one is kind of disconcerting.

The ground textures look great (especially in the first pic, with the leaves and everything) but the foliage on the trees look hideous, it has that really smushed PSone look to it.

update is out, restart steam guys !!!

Counter-Strike: Source Update Available
January 18, 2006, 5:44 pm · Alfred Reynolds

Updates to Counter-Strike: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

New Map

Added cs_militia with High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting

Counter-Strike: Source

Fixed player name crash exploit

Fixed rare visibility issue near portals such as doorways and windows

Fixed a bug that occasionally resulted in doors becoming stuck closed

Fixed animation issue with shotgun reloads interrupting fire animations

Fixed bug where footsteps sometimes sounded for crouched players on stairs or slopes (they no longer do)

Fixed buy menu locking up if keypad Enter is bound to "buymenu"

Detail props sway in the breeze now

Underwater observers no longer play drowning damage sounds

Hostage changes

Hostages can open doors and step up onto ledges/stairs now

Hostages and Bots obey NAV_MESH_NO_HOSTAGES

Source Engine

Added FCVAR_CHEAT to some cvars in the materials system

well I just played several rounds, I remembered why I love and hate CS. What's that? Sneak up on the CT's and cap three guys in the head FTW? WOOHOO! Next three rounds turn a corner and get headshotted FTL :(

I think it looks pretty awesome.

Also FREE, which is always fucking nice.

Shit, if I went back 5 years and read half of the comments above I'd think you were all on crack.

Thats not to say I don't already think half of you haters are batshit insane.

Man, is Valve slow. I hope the next obvious thing that gets fixed is the inability to bind more than one key per action. That, and to allow the Ts to move the hostages.

Going to test it.

I get poor FPS rates playing this new Militia map... (down to 35 fps in open areas)

AMD 3500+
Nvidia 6800 GT
1024 RAM

:(

Lince, check your latest drivers. I have a slightly slower rig and I get 60-80 FPS @ 1024*768 with full HDR, 8X aniso and 2X FSAA. If I turn off the FSAA and the HDR I can play it at the same speeds @ 1600*1200.

As for the map... whoa, impressive. There is so much work on it which you can't tell if it is still militia, I don't think it even deserves the name.

Good:
-Best HDR ever.
-Some great textures.
-Most complex CS map so far.
-It really feels like a credible place, unlike the old militia, which was a building in the middle of... a lot of rocks?
-So far it plays great with ten men teams.

Bad:
-I can no longer feel related to the map. It is totally new.
-Cs can break into the bathroom from two different entries. SHIT SHIT SHIT.
-The house is really dark.
-The old militia was a simple map, good for small teams. Now I can see myself running out of time while trying to find some T that's also looking for me somewhere far away from my position.
-Some 3dfx Voodoo textures here and there. What's up with that?

I think I'm going to play it a little more.

check your latest drivers

Yeah I'm on latest drivers, maybe the 35 fps performance is due to the fact I'm playing in a 32 players server... gonna join a 24 or 12 slots server and check it again, I'll try to turn HDR off too... appart from that, awesome map!!

You were right, after playing it a little more there is something wrong with the map, I am sure of it now. From 80 fps to 15 in a glimpse, just put three players on screen while looking from the house and see the game chug like a mofo. Many people are having the same problem.

There is also a major bug, when you are down in the tunnel you can see the shadows from the players up on the surface.

I am starting to wonder about Valve's coding abilities...

The shadow thing has been around for a while. I've seen players' shadows through walls and doors before when I shouldn't be able to.

For me the framerate on this map is a bit lower than on most maps (55-85 instead of 80-85), but I can live with it.

-The favorites are gone.

-The update overwrote a generic texture. Now there are a lot of odd looking plants everywhere. See pic.

-10-15 FPS less per average.

FUCK.

YOU.

VALVE.

I never played the original militia, but I'll say that this new one exemplifies amazingly good level design. I never expected a multiplayer map to ooze such a convincing sense of reality and atmosphere.

And the floating turd is a nice touch.

Awesome.

After some hours of gameplay, I love the map. It is so different from the original, but it still has the feeling and unlike most CSS maps this one is actually improved and the Ts don't have an ungodly advantage over the Cs. The enviroments are great, and they are really suited for this map; it is actually harder to kill the enemies because of the background colours and some dark spots.

One of the best MP levels I've ever seen. Major kudos to Turtle Rock Studios for this brilliant remake.

My favourites were removed as well, but they're still available in the main server browser (not in the game, from the Steam menu) - I just copied/pasted them from there

Good to know. This isn't the first Steam update that wiped out favorites, but I don't remember if this solution worked the last time.
