The Philishave Cool Skin

I've noticed tons of posts on this board about the Mach 3 Turbo, and how great it is. I used to be one of those people until yesterday.

I bought the Cool Skin from Philishave. I've never used an electric before, except the time my grandpa tried to shave my balls, but that's for another post. This shaver comes with a bunch of Nivia shaving gels that dispense while you shave. The feeling is incredible.

Going from a blade to this shaver is a world of a difference. No more razor burns, no more bumps, pimples, etc. And this was just after one use... You really have no idea what you're missing from not using a shaver. You still get a close shave, your skin feels much better, and you feel like a man while doing it.

I paid $150 CDN for the shaver. I consider it an investment. Blades are for girls, shavers are for men. You should all save up and get a shaver, any shaver. Who cares. Your skin will thank you.

I am in the market for a shaver, but I don't know where to even begin researching. I will take your recommendation into consideration.
 
This is my first shaver, so I really don't have much knowledge in what's good or what's bad. But for myself, I don't see how it can get any better than this product. It works amazingly well, and after you shave, your skin isn't on fire or anything. I will never use a razor again.

I also suggest trying out some of the Nivea products. I'm using their Energizing Shower body wash, after shave balm, and their double action face cleansing stuff... it all seems to work pretty well for me. No more pimples, skin isn't flaky in the winter, you smell really good (the hot 40 year olds at work notice me now... how lucky I am). www.niveaformen.com
 
That's odd. I've seen Norelco and Philishave products at the place I was at. Never thought they were the same company. Maybe the Norelco brand is more familiar in some countries.
 
Does it give you a close shave though? I would like to buy an electric shaver too but my past experience with them is that they can't give you the close shave that a normal razor can.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if noreclo OEMed that for phillips. looks damn near the same

Seems as close as the Mach 3 was for me. You gotta press on your face a little, don't just glide over like a sissy boy.
 
I tend to be lazy and often don't shave for a few days until the hair gets long and irritating so how does it perform if you have a lot of hair on your face? From my experience with electric shavers, they tend to 'rip your face off' when trying to shave anything more than just stubble.
 
Mach 3 Power provides the same effect for me and for much cheaper. Compared to the Turbo, it's a much smoother shave, like it glides across your face. I've never gotten any kind of burn or irritation and have gotten closer shaves than I ever have before. I've never tried a good quality electric one like the one you posted though.
 
i want to get an electric razor, but all the good ones seem to cost in upwarrds of $100. Not worth it for me, i'll just stick to the Mach3.
 
I really need one of those too Don.. man. I hate shaving every day before work. Rip the shit out my face even with Mach 3's. I love it when I get a couple days and the stubble can grow in, shaving is much more pleasant. From your glowing reviews, it sounds like it is a worthy investment. Maybe I'll pick one up cheap while I'm still down in the states for a few days..

In my experience it is the exact opposite. I used to use a shaver until the hair on my face because too thick for it. If you don't have a lot of facial hair then shavers are great, but otherwise they are garbage.

The best shave is still a straight razor from the barber, but I can't afford to pay the dude 5 bucks every morning for a shave so I will just stick with the M3.

Pestul, where the hell have you been?

Yeah, if you shave every day or second day, this is probably the best option if you want to keep your skin normal...
 
Norelco is Philips. The models and model names are identical and I just bought a Norelco and it lists Philips on the box as well.

How much are the Nivea cartridges? That's one thing that turned me off.

Oh and if you can return it, you can purchase it brand new for 80 dollars at dealsouetlet.ca :)
 
I'll continue using the old Mach 3 I have (manual)...I can't stand electric shaving machines. They totally break my skin...well it was even worse when I used one of this:

I completely tore my face apart shaving this morning :( I can still feel it burn.

It doesn't happen every time I shave, but it happens regularly enough. It's rare that I have shave without ANY cuts though. There's usually one or two. This morning there were about ten. I regularly have a terrible burn, like this morning, and a fair bit of redness.

I've tried most blades. I haven't tried the Mach 3 Turbo, but I tried its predecessor and didn't find it much better at all than the el cheapo blades. So I stuck to them. I use King of Shaves - a pre-shave face wash, a shaving gel, and a post-shave gel. None of this seems to help much.

So maybe I'll try an electric razor.."coolskin" sounds like what i need, if only in name alone.
 
Depends on what you prefer.

Many people use the wrong products however. Use a good Shaving gel/foam/cream etc. and aftershave balm with your Mach 3 as well as using a good shaving technique.

Do you shave with a cactus? :p

I recommend dumping King of shaves if it isnt working for you. Get something that gives more proctection and soothes your skin better. King Shaves arent exactly as well regarded outside of their oil and womens leg shaving products.

I've had a Norelco base model since 1996. As you can imagine, it doesn't do a whole lot of cutting anymore. It's down to 2 blades, one of which is cockeyed. It takes me about 5 minutes to shave now b/c I have to make like 10 passes before it's all gone. Used to be much better. I'd like to buy a new one...now. Is $80 really the cheapest they can be found? I'd like to get it closer to $50. Someone hook me up with a good electric razor. $80 is fine if that's the best I can find that particular model for. That's a good model that retails for like $100. PEACE.

I'm going to have to try and pick one up. What's it called?

My face gets extremely raw and cuts easily every time I shave. I feel like I've tried everything (except the above). Different razors, different gels, different foams...I fucking cut my face with an electric razor. It has a guard, it's almost impossible!

I hate my skin/hair/bone structure. Whatever the hell's responsible anyway.
 
I do not know who makes it. The style is called Sandwich Head or Sandwich razor . I am not sure where you can find one either. :(

Edit: It is made by Gillette.
 
I've only been using a Mach 3 for about a year now. Before that I had always used an Electric Razor. I've never had one that was all that expensive so I can't say how good they could potentially be.

The best thing about electric razors is that they require little concentration when using them. You would have to be very unlucky to get any sort of cut while using one. Plus they are great if you just want a quick shave and don't have the time to do a proper one.

The downside is they don't get a very close shave at all. If I continued to use an Electric Shaver these days I'd need to shave twice a day!

What I do now is use a combination of both an Electric Shaver and a traditonal razor (Mach 3 Power). The Electric Shaver is great for trimming down your hair very quickly and then I use a Mach 3 to go over my face to get a really close shave. There's a lot less chace of getting cuts too I find if I use an Electric Shaver beforehand.

I really like my Mach 3 Turbo but I've always had trouble shaving the area around my adam's apple and just my general neck area. Very easy to cut myself as the hair seems to grow in all different directions unlike my face which is all one direction.

Electric Shavers are very expensive and way overpriced but considering that most of us have to shave every single day of our lives, I don't think it's a "waste" of money. So if you can find a good one, then get it.

I have my doubts that this Phillishave could get as close a shave as a Mach 3 or any other razor. I'm interested in other ppl's opinions though on decent Electric Razors.

Oh one other thing, do ppl like the 3-circle "phillishave" style or the other rectangular style for electric razors?
 
granted, i'm half asian and my facial hair is practically non existant, but i've shaved comfotably with my plain-jane Mach 3 while showering. there's no pain, perfect glide and no cuts since the water softens the hair and makes it easier to slice through. just make sure to bring a small mirror into the shower when you shave.

If your current shaving products are leaving you feeling like that then you need to move to something else.
If you have really sensitive skin don't even bother buying men's shave gel/cream. Buy some womens shaving gel, make sure you get the stuff for sensitive skin (it will probably have some aloe in it). Trust me here. Companies spend way more money on making sure women's legs are razor-burn free than they do with men's gels. And get some Mach 3 Turbos, they are very nice.
I shave in the shower because the heat will soften my skin and open up my pores, but if you shave at the sink then soak a facecloth is hot water to warm it up, rinse it out a bit and then just hold it up to your face for a couple of seconds to let your skin warm up and let your pores open up. Apply the gel. Let it sit for a minute or so (brush your teeth etc...) then shave with the direction the hair grows. DO NOT GO AGAINST THE HAIRGROWTH if you have sensitive skin. After you are all done then rinse off your face with the facecloth and then dip the facecloth in cold water and then hold it up to your face like you did before. This will close your pores, which will help with razor burn and keep dirt and crap out of your pores so you don't get zits and crap. After shaving you should use some sort of balm or lotion to put a protective layer back onto your skin. Nivia makes some decent products, just don't use something that burns your skin. You need a product that feels soothing.

Really? I thought they were pretty highly regarded (and certainly they cost enough). What do you suggest as an alternative?

I shave immediately after showering, so the whole opening up the pores thing shouldn't be a problem. The "do not go against the hair growth" issue isn't something I can claim to be as careful on - to be honest, I feel I can't get a close shave unless I go in both directions. I found the same with the Mach 3's predecessor, but I will try the Mach 3 Turbo. I do use a post-shave gel, non-alcohol with aloe, but like I say, it can burn like crazy sometimes. I'll try Nivea. Thanks for your help.

You are supposed to replace the head of the electric razor every year.
 
I read that Gilette is being tested on animals (no source atm), so I've gotten rid of my Mach 3 and am sticking to some kind of nearly identical non-brand shaver now.

First, go to the drug store and get a Mach 3 Turbo and Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel (It’s the one with the light blue cap).

Next, get in the shower and wash for 5-10 minutes. This will soften your facial hair and prepare your skin for the shave. Obviously, get out of the shower, shave, and return to the shower for another 5 minutes or so…this should change the way your face reacts to shaving, dramatically.

I recently got this (well not that particular model) as well, and it's saved me a decent amount of time in the morning now that I can shave in the shower without worrying about slicing my face open with a blade.

(I don't exactly have what would be defined as "steady hands.")

Oh, also, Philips owns Norelco. They have for some time now. Which name is on the product is simply a matter of territory. If you don't believe me, just type in www.norelco.com, and see where you're redirected.
 
I'm heavily prone to in-grown hairs and pimples and razor bumps on my neck. I'm Greek, my hair grows in curly and pointing in all different directions.

Mach 3 Power is doing a pretty darn good job ever since I started using it. The trick is shaving after a hot hot shower. I also wash my beard area with a pre-shaving Neutragina (SP?) wash. I shave twice, with a neutragina special shaving gel with no scent (heated by my shaving gel heating machine). I wash my face off and reapply shaving gel and shave twice as to not leave any hairs astray. I then rinse with cold cold water to close pores and then apply prescribed creme to prevent razor burn.

It works.
