i cant tell if those look better than the last group of shots.

It does, but then none of them are close-up shots either. And they are still a long ways off from those E3 shots, no matter which way you slice (haha) it.

Looks good. I doubt the crowd is make of sprites.

its really hard to tell. but what i find strange is, as far as i can tell, ever single repeated person is shown from the exact same perspective (possibly mirrored), so, its looking like sprites to me

EDIT: maybe i'm wrong. it seems the one guy near dead center with a green shirt, tan shorts and the backwards hat, is mirrored on the far right turned sideways. so yeah, i guess they are 3d.

yep same prespective on all look-alikes.. and same animation frame..

it is sprites alright

though i CAN´T imagine they will use sprites in a 360 game? surely this has to be a mockup?!

EA sucks at 360 hardware... on purpose?
It's first generation software, Madden 2001 for PS2 didn't look too hot either. It's not easy to come up with several launch titles that fully take advantage of the X360's capabilities with less than a year of development.

wtf... that crowd really looks photoshop'd (poorly) in there. These have to be mock-ups. But damn. if you are going to make mockups.. at least make them look good :lol

You remember how sprites in 3D games work right? They render the same frame of animation from different perspectives (usually the 8 directions)...
they don't quite work as pseudo 3D models if they're only ever shown from 1 perspective.

Moreover, those sprites have jagged edges out of line with the other polygons, and expectations of 4XAA AND reduced picture resolution.

there's only 6 courses, too. Platform aside, anyone who buys this is a sucker (and I'm a golf freak). TW2k6 on PS2 or XBox is a much, much better buy.

Compared to what had come before? Hell yes it did. Huge step up.

Perhaps, but it still failed to take serious advantage of the PS2's full hardware capabilities. I didn't expect it back then, just like I don't expect it now.

First shot looks nice, but the second shot? Meh...

There's still time to refine things I guess, and even then it doesn't look bad , just not all that good neither. Just average, really.

You know what I just noticed in the "bad crowd" picture... look at the golf cart tracks on the grass...

While that is very cool seeing the course beat-up by golf carts... the PGA does not allow golf carts and you must walk in tournaments... so you will not normally see cart tracks while Tiger is playing...

The sprites were so bad that it took away from the cool looking grass...

The PGA Tour is only half of Tiger Woods. Though I highly doubt EA will take the time to change the courses for the different modes.

Another day, another "that's not next gen" thread.

Let's compare last years Tiger Woods for the xbox:

This one's not too shabby.

Well, im pretty sure that the x360hardware will do something 10times this as good in realtime. Its the stupid developers that havent handled the hardware better.. thats why im angry.

you made the thread yo
But I never claimed that the amiga could do better. The fact of the matter is if you look hard enough you can find flaws in every screenshot ever released. Some of the shots look good, some average but none of them would have me up in arms. It's par for course for 1st gen titles still in development.

Yeah, also if you look closely you'll see that the tracks lead up to the green. Some kids must have gotten drunk and snuck on the course last night :lol

It looks alright, but then again--it's really hard to show off "hardware" via a golf game. I mean, not too many explosions or particle effects going on.

If they start adding too much stuff they lose from the actual reality those courses are based off of.

Having said, those sprites are ugly, and that's just lazy from EA.

I'm sure the 360 is more than capable of doing all those audience members in full (polygonal) 3D.

I always though Tiger Woods 2005 looked awful, so if you compare the Xbox 360 version with last year's Xbox version then yes you see a quite big evolution. But if you compare Tiger Woods 360 to the good old Links 2004 on Xbox, the difference is certainly far smaller.
Here is one ingame image of Links 2004 :

You know, back in the days of Windows 95 all the PC golf games were using photos for the courses, which would flip if the camera panned round and so on.

It's nice to see EA finally learning this trick.
