Tiger Woods 360 screens.

Sorry for posting the same image over again...but I want to point some things out.

I think everything looks excellent, and the crowd definately doesn't fit in. But I think everything about that shot is impressive.

The skybox and the hills in the distance look photorealistic to me. The water looks AWESOME (while in another shot a pond looks like current gen water)...the waves of the ocean and colours are done very well.

What I found most impressive was the rough grass. Ultra high resolution textures...you can almost see every blade. And the tire marks from the golf carts impressed onto the grass...extremely impressive.

But compared to a game link Links on the Xbox...I can see how people don't notice these little things and won't see a big difference...big enough to warrent a purchase. EA isn't known for leading edge graphics (and in specific the Tiger Woods series...even on the PC it didn't look too hot)...and so before claiming that the 360 is underpowered, I'd wait until a Links game is put on the 360.

The crowd is definately the same type of sprite/decal/2-poly flat surface the previous games had...I'm hoping they are just place holders.

Great and is that a playable view? No? Then lets wait until we see something from a playable view, just like we ask for with every other sport. Not that it matters as the PC version will blow the Xbox360 and it's paltry 6 courses out of the water as it does every year. Golf is a sport best played on a computer with a KB/Mouse. Until TW adds a course editor and mouse dupport to a console version you are simply playing a dumbed down version (graphically and gameplay wise).

First off...from the golf games I've played...non-playable views don't look much better or recieve any performance benefit as compared to playable views. Is it just me or is this comment a bit bizarre?

Yeah, last year the PC definately had a clear lead over the 360.

I prefer using an analog stick, but I think using the mouse isn't bad either. Maybe I'm missing something here...you make it pretty much cut and dry, is there something the mouse can do far better than an analog stick can?

Everything, it really is cut and dry - unless you want to hit every green/fairway and shoot in the 50's. First off with an analog stick you are limited to the space that it can go up and down. Also the analog stick is much tighter then moving a mouse up and down, making it harder to mishit a shot. Some of the problem is the developers just make the console version of TW too easy. On the PC you can push/pull a putt. On the console you can't. How is that realistic? To make matters worse they implement a mode that shows you the line, distance and all but makes the putt for you. Lastly the more difficult levels on the PC versions are just that - DIFFICULT. Just like in real golf if you have the shakes you might want to back it down.

I prefer timing button based games like Hot Shots Golf on the consoles because they at least present some challenge. Tiger Woods is so simple with a default character on the console it's embarasing. Links 2004 came close to pulling off a challenge with the analog stick but still failed in the end. We even played on the advanced setting without building up our players. It just became natural and toward the end I never missed a fairway/green. Of course they at least provided console users with a challenge around the green. Problem was that the lob wedge was from hell. But at least they let you push/pull putts and chips unlike TW.

As for the graphics comment they fly-by's always look better (especially on the PC) in my eyes. Problem is EA never shows off videos of the PC game.

So is the cloning effect because the game can handle more models than it can animation/textures for each individual one, or is it just laziness of the developer? It doesn't sound too hard to have a create-a-person thing and let it randomize each person.

Considering PGR3 will have randomized crowds (confirmed in the OXM article), then it's definitely laziness. Especially considering a racing is certainly way more CPU intensive than a golf game.

EA cares about 1 thing and 1 thing only. PROFIT. they could care less about how rushed a game is. I doubt 5% of the same team works on the rehashes they churn out every year. PGRs team stays pretty consistant besides the hired help this time around to get PGR3 done ontime and most of that is from within microsoft game studios.

EA Lazy? Nah couldn't be.

ubi's golf game will probably blow away ea's graphically (Vijay Singh's golf).

How much of Ubi does EA own now? I have not heard anything of the Vijay game since it was announced with the rest of the sports games. Maybe it has been silenced?
