Tim Apple got stitched up the Courts

Sounds like his lawyers gave bad legal advise on how to comply and that ultimately cost them more. Probably time for new lawyers.

That is going to be bad for the executive.

Somebody made really bad decisions on how to "comply". Judge said y'all F'd around now you're going to find out. Yikes.

Why would they?
You can still buy physical copies of most games at other places than the platform holder.
Only when you cant do that anymore they will run into the same problems as Apple.
You can buy console game keys on any key retailer, even eShop keys. Apple is ironically more restrictive.

We are talking about buying games on a third party site and activating them there and not paying the 30%. If you are buying physical or activating on the companies digital storefront that payment is still being made to the console marker.

The day people get held accountable for perjury is when I'll be dead cold in the ground.

Also, apple making specific rules like no affiliate links to your own store is crazy. I remember they take a 30% cut of everything too, which is quite high

Just saw an article where the Executive was refereed by the judge for prosecution.

Apple vs Epic - it's when two people you hate are fistfighting and you just wish a plane would fall out of the sky and land on both of them.

Big meh from me, feels like court overreach. The reason consoles aren't included in the courts have drawn lines at a certain number of users.

They do the same thing with social media.

Which means new products can ignore these "rules" but would get the ire of regulators once they grew past their arbitrary lines. Makes zero sense to set up any anti-trust regulations like that.

If a console sold enough that device would also suddenly have to comply with rules while its competitors could stay as closed as they want.

District judge

Does this sort of thing usually get settled at district courts? (I'm asking, barely know anything about us system)

edit: nevermind

"We will comply with the court's order, and we will appeal," the spokesperson said.

I've never been overly in favour of this. I just don't like the courts dictating stuff like this. Perhaps if they mandated it for all, it might be ok but even then I'm not sure I'd like it.

I also don't like how companies like Apple get I trouble for promoting their own stuff on their own services.

I also think Apple should be able to void warranties if it shows that something that hasn't gone through their verification process is downloaded and does something. Apple should also be responsible to exercise more control over their store to vet the quality of products

And as far as I can tell this only has to do with app devs being able to provide a link/button for you to buy in app purchases.

This is not really a walled garden crumbling; none of this is really for the benefit of users, it's for the benefit of developers.

Been against Apple since my Iphone 4 and Ipod touch 5 became 2 useless devices when they all of a sudden stopped supporting them to force me to buy their over expensive new ones, so good, Apple deserve it, Karma lol.

One push I'd like to see in the digital services arena these days is consumer ownership. During physical DVD days for example we owned what we purchased and could give it away or sell or swap it at any store or person. These days you don't even own the same movie or game across different platforms/services e.g. I buy a movie from Disney I don't own it in Prime to Xbox Movies etc. I'd like to see true digital ownership and the governments/watchdogs of the world push for less closed systems and more consumer focused technology instead of walled gardens. One can dream the utopian dream.

It makes total sense. The 'arbitrary' line is when you become a de facto monopoly. Google are being raked over the coals for paying Apple 20 billion dollars just to have Google be the default search on iphones. Why do you think Google would pay that much just to be a default but changeable option?
Also you are missing the point where Apple executives outright lied in court.

There are a million reasons to hate Apple, but I don't understand this one. All electronic devices reach a point where the manufacturer stops supporting them. They still work, just no updates.

Using the iPhone 4 as an example, came out June 24, 2010 and was supported until September 17, 2014. That's 4 years and 2 months of support.

Their biggest competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S, originally came out just earlier than the iPhone 4 did, on March 23, 2010. It was supported until January 10, 2012. That's only 1 year and 7 months of support.
Shortly after the iPhone 4 was released, Samsung released the Galaxy S II on February 13, 2011. It was supported until April 9, 2013. 1 year and 11 months of support.

Both companies have gotten better at supporting their devices for longer periods of time, but how can your hate stem from them providing longer support than their competitor when you had your iPhone?

Well you didn't buy the phone and IPod mate, and i couldn't use it properly afterwards, what an arrogant Apple fanboy post what do you mean you don't understand it,

They wouldn't even let me use older versions of Bluetooth to change from a physical connected speaker to a Bluetooth one after they pulled support, I should know I had them and tried and read the message no longer supported, your copy and pasted wall of text is irrelevant.

I still have the Ipod Touch 5 and The Galaxy S6 i switched to so could use a Bluetooth speaker at the time when Apple had I tunes, The Galaxy was cheaper to buy and never walled off software afterwards.

Arrogant? I posted facts that I looked up and personally typed (no copy paste, buddy). Apple fanboy? I literally started my post saying there are a million reasons to hate Apple. I've used iPhones and androids after my preferred phone, Windows Phone, died out. All phones have things to hate about them.

Your original post complained about support being stopped, which is what I questioned, but your response complains about walled off software, which is an actual valid complaint. Your issue with Bluetooth is a hardware complaint that, wildly enough, applies to all manufacturers. The host device (phone, tablet, etc.) have to be the same or a higher version of Bluetooth than what it's connected to (speakers, earphones, etc.) and won't work if the the connected device is a higher version than the host device. You would have had the same problem with any phone from that era.

Pulling support doesn't stop devices from working. I didn't have an iPhone 4, but I did (and still do) have an iPod Touch 4th gen. I used it for years to use apps not on Windows Phone (mostly Simpsons Tapped Out), and for plugging into my car for music. Eventually apps were updated to the point where the iPod didn't have a new enough update to support them, but I kept that thing plugged into the aux port on my car until about 3 years ago when I finally got a car with CarPlay/Android Auto so now I just use my phone. But that iPod still works with the exception of the battery sucking.

Look mate don't call me a liar, that's what happened to me when i used them 10 years ago, i ended up with 2 devices i couldn't use the way i wanted to and switched to Android to play music to bluetooth so i haven't supported Apple since then and switched to Android which i still use for my music, i don't care if you like it or not, it's what happened, YOU didn't experience it!

Thr problem with Apple devices is that software gets blocked off real quick with no way of loading an older version or doing really anything of note with the device.
Thank God moonlight works on basically any version of iOS.
