Tips for playing defense in Madden

Well, don't get me wrong, I LOVE Madden 2005, but I can't seem to understand how to play defense. I mean, offense is easy, it's just passing or running. But defense... what is it? What player do I choose? Do I always stick with a L-B?

Help me!! I suck at defense!

Here's my strategy,

I always try to have at least as many CB's as the offense has WR. So that's my first step in calling a defense. Next, switch it up as much as possible. Don't always call man coverage, or zone. The offense will figure it out. Blitzing throws a offense off their timing, so blitz often, also, run different types of blitzes. Don't just run the same blitz every down. When you do blitz, it's often helpful to tell your CBs' to bump at the line, which disrupts the timing even more, and makes it harder to complete a short/ safe pass. Don't do it every down though, keep the offense guessing.

When the play starts, I usually try and play conservative for the first few defensive series, and after that you start to get a feel for what the offense does, and change accordingly

Interceptions? Mostly random.

One thing I've used that's worked is running man coverages for a few downs in a row, if they start completing short passes over and over, switch it to cover 2 zone, or something similar. You'd be supprised how many people don't notice and throw it right to the same spot.
