They say they're gonna have a new sound system that they're quite proud of..
They have a sample here at:
ftp://downloads.codemasters.com/audio/ToCA_audio.mp3

It's going to have normal mapping, 60fps and flag rules (great addition for online racing, if it works). Toca 2 was already a great online game, I'm interested to see how this one turns out.

This'll next generation potentially will be the first time Codemasters screenshots and ingame stuff looks the same!

These are rendered I guess, but I'm sure the game will look nice in the end (trd 2 did , well at least the xbox version). My biggest problem with the first game (xbox version) was the floaty feeling some cars had.. Hopefully it'll be gone this time.

Looks like Codemasters might be pulling a 'RUF' with the Ferrari 360. That 360 looking car is actually a Koenig.

And there already is some pre-emptive damage control:

I know “Simulation” is a word that sends waves of apoplexy through a lot of the community (at least when we use it), but I think it’s fair word to use- we’re in the business of putting as much of the real world of racing inside your PS2, Xbox, or PC that we can possibly manage. That doesn’t just encompass physics (though they are undoubtedly important)- essentially it’s about putting you there making the same decisions as a real driver- managing the tyres, watching the fuel, keeping an eye on the opposition, and all the while keeping the car pointed the right way between the white lines. Increasing the options for realistically-styled play, both over the course of your time with the game long term (having 2 versions of the career mode, depending on how you want it structured), and things applicable just to each race (qualifying, long races, flags, reliability)- is central to how we’re taking this series forward. The aim is to allow as much of a simulated experience as each and everyone reading this email wants. We may never satisfy everyone, but the options are all going to be there. Both on and offline.
Another aspect of increasing options for the user is peripheral support. We’ve added support for naturalpoint’s TrackIR™ system, that allows free-looking within the game based on your head movements. Just the thing when you’ve got a little frisky with the accelerator pedal on the exit of a hairpin and are now proceeding in a sideways manner. This is just one of the ways in which we’re acting on feedback received about the last game- In many ways it’s been the input of the community that’s been a driving factor behind a lot of the expanded options of TRD2006.
Something else we’re moving forward several steps is the sound engine- it’s been substantially re-written to more fully recreate the different aspects that affect engine sound. Throttle position, engine speed, load, all mixing together for something pleasing to the ear, and dripping with power. Check out this recording made from the game. In the light of last week’s announcements of both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, some people have been asking if the game is headed to those new platforms. At the moment, no- we’re still focusing on extracting the maximum performance from current generation hardware.

Well, that’s all the news for this month. Remember to check out the Forum for the latest chat about the game, and I’ll be back in your inbox in a month or so.

I am glad to hear about TrackIR support :D

Eh, I don't know...I always thought the TOCA games on XBox looked as good as the screenshots they showed. Race Driver 2 is still one of the two or three best looking racers ever made. It was the PS2 version of the first game that looked like some PS One trainwreck, which made them look like liars to everyone (and on that game they clearly were :lol).
