Still think this sets a very bad precedent for the Players association that the league can enact any punishment without proof. Basically just lets Goodell arbitrarily suspend a player any time he's feeling the need.

They should have not allowed exactly that outcome in collective bargaining during the last labor agreement. During the last negotiation, this issue was much debated and many pundits pointed out that it would bite the players.

You don't get to specifically allow goodell all of the power in discipline then complain that he uses it.

Very true. They shouldn't have allowed it and just assumed that Goodell would act in good faith.

Looks like Tom Brady going to lose the appeal.

I don't think he will lose the appeal. For all the judges bluster about believing the Wells report that doesn't matter as the lower court already held that the Wells report were the facts of the case.

The judges are tasked with determining if Goodell overstepped his boundaries or applied the rules correctly. The Wells report can say whatever it likes, the determination of a 4 game suspension and the reasoning was outside the collectively bargained for rules.

Should really have a new thread for the federal level appeal, this one is super outdated.

The CBA is so weak and so is the NFL players union, kinda comical compared to the MLB
When it eventually happens, sure. Although I kinda like how the first 10 or so pages kinda look silly after the appeal happens.

The NFL will never have a good CBA. Careers are short, money is not guaranteed and nobody wants to give up money now so players in the future can have what they don't have - especially with all the medical issues that pop up after retirement for a lot of these players.
