Tom Henderson - Black Ops 6 Day One Game Pass Will be Announced Today

Just like the CMA was going to block the merger, right?
Fun times back then

MS will kill slowwwly but surely kill this series with their lack of ambition. The fact that this is still on PS4 and Xbox One 4 going on 5 years into the gen is just hilarious

The first COD with a 4 year development cycle, and they choose to limit themselves to fucking 2013 hardware LOL

I feel like a dinossaur just from reading this statement. It's ludicrous for them to keep old hardware afloat, but after hearing that half of playstation playerbase is still on last it does make sense business-wise.

half of the playerbase is still on last gen because they have not given them any reason to upgrade by making these games next gen only.
True, most pathetic gen of all time. 4 to 5 years into it and it feels like just barely started. I don't blame anyone who just didn't bother upgrading or went PC fulltime.

Presumably Activision have the data to show where their customers are playing their games. Would it be better for business to cut them off?
They are only on old-gen because these devs are giving them no reason to upgrade.

There will be a mass migration when GTA6 drops - R* is doing it right. Giving people a REASON to upgrade. They are not saying "everyone's still on PS4, lets make a GTA6 PS4 version"

IGN wasn't far off when they said GTA6 could be the most important game ever. Its going to move consoles like nothing else can.

Why would they give a shit about where you're playing the game though?

The choice is sell more or sell less, surely?

The platform choice drives game design to an extent. PS4/Xbone are quite weak, especially so on CPU side so sacrifices to design and lack of improvement will result in the choice of including those systems.

Absolutely correct. They fucked themselves with their own greed, and now they're stuck with these stunted games.

Ok. Tell me why GTA6 isn't launching on PS4? Why can rockstar do that with GTA and MS can't do it for COD?

Cod has played basically the same since the 360 games. Once they leave the Xbox One and PS4 behind, it'll still play basically the same would be my bet.

GTA6 will essentially be targeting the next gen of consoles (not Series X and PS5), would be my guess, so they can make billions again selling the game on current gen, then the next gen, and maybe the following one too. Theirs will be a platform for perhaps a decade of gaming.

COD will be superceded around a year after of it's release, as usual. It's slightly apples and oranges. In GTA's case, it's a good idea to future proof the gameplay, which will mean more density of traffic or whatever that requires more CPU cycles etc, they need to be thinking about not comparing poorly to other games in 5 years time. COD will ride the wave of where the most players are, just as it has done for years.

It's literally not in Activision's interest to do anything but service the largest number of players possible, as long as it doesn't harm the game design to the point where they sell fewer copies of the game.

I'm still slightly baffled that you (@Represent) think Activision should make a better game so more consoles get sold and then they can sell to those customers, rather than just selling to the customers in front of them.

Longer term, it's in Activision's and MS interest to expand console user base and get folks converted to next gen hardware.

The latter will also drive PC hardware upgrades which in general helps MS as a whole, IMO.
