Tomb Raider VGA 'Survivor' Trailer

I'm trying so hard not to say it looks exactly like Uncharted, with a Tomb Raider skin over it. I mean, I know Uncharted: Drakes Fortune pulled some inspiration from TR. But, this just feels like a blatant rip-off. I'm sure it'll still be fun, though, seeing as Uncharted is fun. Hopefully the story isn't forgettable, that's my main concern. Seems pretty solid from the trailer, and has a great studio behind it. Deus Ex: Human Revolution was fantastic.

No tombs, no puzzles. Great stuff, CD.

Also re the Uncharted comparisons, Uncharted actually prides itself in being quite fun and witty sometimes in the games. This just looks way too depressing.

I can just imagine what pre production would have been like. Words like Uncharted, Gritty and Cinematic were probably written on a whiteboard somewhere.

Yeah, I'm skipping this. I really wanted a new Tomb Raider but not like this. It all seemed so promising when they first announced it too.

Pretty sure Crystal Dynamics didn't develop Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Really curious if how they gonna transition lara from girl to videogame character.

Is there any masters on this island? Is it gonna be supernatural? Or they just gonna not give a fuck like with far cry 3?

Boobcharted.

Uncharted: Among Boobs.

Huh?

I cant relate to this anymore. Maybe Im old, or senile or nostaligia is playing tricks on me... but I miss the times when TR was about exploration. Useing hours to find a key or puzzle piece, within ambient caverns/undiscovered ruins of the roman empire to unlock a chamber and to progress further. The latest TR games have been quite unsatisfying (apart from Guardian of Light; havent played that).

Part of it was about survival, but first and foremost about being guided by curiousity.

I hope Im wrong, but this trailer leaves much to be desired for me.

Whats with the "protect herself comments?" Really? Are you guys not over that yet?

They made a comment about how the gamer will feel with the game, and honestly they may be spot on. Think about the game ICO, how it made the gamer feel towards the characters. If the director of ICO came out and said "the game will make you want to protect her" noone would bat a damn eye lash at it.

I know its fun and cool to hate everything and tear everything apart... but cant everyone get over it now?

Edit: I understand its a different type of game where you are playing the character instead of playing a character thats protecting someone... but it can still generate a feeling with a player.

A comment? They haven't shut up about the emotional investment we'll supposedly have in Lara since they first announced this game. They went out to promote the game with a near-rape scene, part of which has even been shown. Meanwhile, they refuse to hint as to whether or not the things we want from this game are there, mere months before release, when the game is already finished.

Ive been a tomb raider fan since the day the first one was released so I understand what your saying. However this is a reboot, not a sequel. I want tombs in my tomb raider as well, but its entirely possible they just havent shown that part yet.

I just dont believe there is any possible way they could release a tomb raider game without tombs being raided... thats fucking beyond stupid... noone is that stupid.. I hope.

I guess its also possible they have to take an entire game on the beginning story.. such as Castlevania lords of shadow.

I think he's referring to the whole "protect her" thing, which has been said literally once by some fucktard in his only interview about the game (and he hasn't done one since). If that hadn't been said there wouldn't be anything to joke about.

Regarding the whole "what you want from this game", assuming you mean tombs: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/04/ign-presents-tomb-raider-week

Wednesday, 12/12: The Tombs of Tomb Raider It's one of the most frequently asked questions about the new game -- Where are the tombs?! Don't worry, they're in there. Join us for a video walkthrough of a few examples.

Take that however you will, but, yeah.

Wait, what? I was just reviewing the previous thread and came across this post:

When Lara falls from a ledge does she automatically grab it?
Ehm, well this is quite hard to explain. I sensed that Lara couldn't fall off ledges in the beginning of the demo (on the beach) but you could jump of. After that I didn't really try anymore.
I did ask Meagan about this and she was sure further on in the game you could just walk of the edge and drop to your death, but she wasn't 100% either, so she asked the Game Director, who was
also there, and he explained that this decision (you can or you can't fall of in this or that place) was made for the 'synchronisation (connection)' with the character. In some moments the emotional
bond you get with Lara needs to work and walking of edges distracts from that at that time. It's well thought out. In the end it's all about getting the most out of the story and connecting you with
Lara as a person, so they have their reasons. In other places I had to press B to drop Lara off an edge, so I'm not sure if she does this automatically.
So not only can we not swim, now we can't even fall off ledges..........?

Dying from falling off places is the soul of Tomb Raider! It's the one thing that makes you consistently nervous.

Screw this game.

I hope you can still jump and miss... lol Don't most games now make your character stop before running off the edge?

To be fair though this is not a first. All of Crystal's previous TR games had that "feature".
