I have always tended to believe that AAA games will financially sink or swim whether they are good or not, but the outlook for games is so ridiculously stacked for 2025(and probably 2026) that I am unsure if gamers can actually sustain the industry
The games we are seeing today were funded when publishers believed the industry was still growing at a rapid pace. The layoffs the past few years in a post Covid world have shown stagnation within the industry. Even for hardcore gamers, I'm not sure if many of them will find the time to play most or all the games they would in a typical year
Announced big AAA games slated for 2025
Monster Hunter Wilds
Death Stranding 2
Avowed
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Fable
Ghost of Yotei
Assassins Creed
Elden Ring Neightborn
AC Shadows
Mafia 4
Borderlands 4
GTA 6
Marathon
Crimson Desert
Doom the Dark Ages
Judas
The Outer Worlds 2
COD
And the Switch 2 will surely launch with a handful of big IP games(Mario, Metroid Prime, MK9 ect). Not to mention, there will surely be a few yet to be announced games and also smaller AAA games that will become breakout hits like Helldivers 2 and Black Myth Wukong were this year. And, if GTA 6 comes out in the Fall, it will absolutely take up all the oxygen for the remaining months of the year
It could be a make or break year for the future of gaming. We may be in the golden era and not even realize it could be ending soon
