Toothpaste to remove scratches on an iPod?

I've been reading that a lot of people use toothpaste to remove scratches on their iPods. Is this for real? Never heard of this before. Would it actually work on the back part of the unit?

works for Gamestop (lol)
Using toothpaste is actually common when trying to fix scratched CDs...so I guess people are serious

Avoid home remedies that suggest using toothpaste. Toothpaste is a mild abrasive and acts as a light sandpaper. While it may sometimes buff out scratches, more often it will cause additional scratches.

Got this by googling "Fix a scratched CD with toothpaste" so I assume the same goes for the back of an iPod.

I just tried it. I smeared Colgate all over my iPod...but it was sticky. So I rinsed off my iPod under warm water for about 20 seconds. Now, my iPod doesn't work :( I thought the battery might be dead so I plugged it in to charge it. After a few minutes, it started smelling like burnt circuit board :( What do I do? Will floss work?

Does the toothpaste protect against future scratches? Because if it doesn't then what's the point?

You put your iPod under running water?

Why didn't you just use a damp towel? A moiste towelette, even.

That probably wasn't a smart move.

Although, that dude in Surf Ninjas swims with his Game Gear in his backpack...

There are some car care products that are for removing scratches, You could try ScratchX. But some plastic specific polishes would be best.

I found a website recently that would sell customized cases for iPods, I'm sure there has to be a site that sells replacement white cases.

I don't remember the link, I found it by accident about a month ago.

Did you just smear it on with your finger? It doesn't work unless you apply the paste with a toothbrush... :lol

The best way to remove scratches is to not get them in the first place, use protection!

Hurrah for useless advice.
