This is mainly just rock?

Talib Kweli and A Tribe Called Quest are very good lyricists also -- despite being rappers.

Also, should Reznor be that low? Ehhhh.

I'd bump Elvis Costello way up, probably to the top three. And quite a few of those in the leftovers would rank in my top 100.

*Tim shits on this list*

The presence of Chris Cornell at 30 (!??!!!!! that's it!?) doesn't salvage this POS.

6. Neil Young
7. Ray Davies (The Kinks)
8. Paul McCartney (The Beatles)
9. Bruce Springsteen

Ok Bob being behind these fools should be punishable by death from a dull spoon stabbing..

Lenny at 138 is also sad, sad, sad...

52. Robert Hunter - BS that he is that low.
126. Steve Earle - yet more bullshit.

Where the fuck is Townes Van Zandt?

wrong. He should be #1.

Edit: Where the FUCK is Jon Anderson of Yes?

Also, why is Petrucci a 'leftover' and credited as the lyricist of Dream Theater? Portnoy usually writes the better lyrics :p (Change of Seasons, nuff said)

That list is shit, below #1.

I mean, Randy Newman at #102? Leonard Cohen at #65, below such "poets" as Trent Reznor, Bob Marley, and Maynard James Keenan? Hell, half of the first 100 people are barely literate.

There's no way Roger Waters is not #1. Comparing his lyrics (especially the later ones) to John Lennon's is borderling laughable IMO.

Eddie Vedder is so incoherent that he shouldn't be on the list... Sorry, NinjaScooter, but to make it up, 2 Live Crew being excluded is a travesty!

I'm a huge Manson fan as some here know, but I honestly think he deserves to be higher despite how biased it sounds. Some people may not like the subject matter or the themes of his lyrics, but they are incredibly well written, especially after Portrait.

I am SOOOOO tempted to abuse my ban power to get rid of anyone who says another bad word about Bob Dylan...but I will try to hold myself back.

Robert Plant does not belong on this list.

When the majority of your songs are adressed to Babe, you do not deserve any honors for lyric writing.

...

And Bob Dylan can't sing. Good song writer though.

If you're saying Maynard can't write, or that he's any kind of stupid, your ignorance knows no bounds. Shit, even people who don't like Tool admit Maynard is a helluva writer, as well as being a very intelligent person. He did go to West Point, you know.

WTF do you mean "incoherent?" Do you even know what incoherent means? Obviously not you incoherent fool. You obviously haven't listened to a Pearl Jam cd ever.

he didn't use incoherent wrong. incoherent means a lot of things and one of them includes lacking harmony. Also it can be used if say, his lyrics make no sense.

I like Tool, and I DON'T think he's a "helluva writer" -- especially when compared to many people on that list.

Also, being intelligent doesn't automatically make someone a good writer.

well no shit. i agree with that. i only stated his intelligence because of your comment: "Hell, half of the first 100 people are barely literate."

That comment wasn't aimed at Maynard. He may be a lot of things, but dumb isn't one of them.

Clearly "half of the list" is hyperbole, but some of those people are NOT even close to being artful with their lyrics: Bon Scott? Bob Marley? Robert Plant? Trent Reznor? Jimi Hendrix? Mick Jagger? Art Garfunkel? Dave Matthews? Noel Gallagher???

Michaep Stipe should be ahead of Thom Yorke, Ian Curtis needs to be higher and I think a lot of girl writers deserve more respect. Ani Difranco and Tori Amos are pretty low on the list.
