The show just started on the Discovery Channel last week premiering at 10 pm eastern on wednesday. I'm not a car buff but I have to say the show is awsome. You get to really see firsthand how awsome some of these insanely powerful sports cars really are. That coupled with some very funny british dialog and some downright crazy car related races, events and demolitions and you have one kick ass show. I though it was good enough to tape and loan to friends who haven't seen it. I'm still waiting to see the episode with the Lotus Exige. They keep showing it in the promo.

I got the Exige vid on my computer. It's neat, but it's not Tiff, and he really makes the show IMO. His reviews are the best. The guy who did the Exige one also did the Skyline one, but all he does is just toss the car around on an airstrip. Tiff is an former F1 driver, and actually gives great feedback on how the car handles. His MR2 Spyder review really made me want to get one, and after owning it, I think his review was spot on. From everything to the near-telepathic turn-in, to the ugly spots on the dash. Easily my favorite car reviewer. PEACE.

The old man seems to bitch about the lamest problems or made up problems but the rest of the show is great.

top gear is awesome, as long as you don't take it as serious journalism. a lot of it is just entertaining fluff dealing with cars. the productions of the show is also top notch: beautiful camera shots and very well produced segments.

heh. Latest series just ended over here. They had a race along the London Marathon course at rush hour between a car and a runner.

Tiff Needell is still in the episodes you guys are getting? Thats gotta be getting on for 10 years old.

The new show format, which is probably 4 or 5 years old is easily my favourite show on British TV. There are torrents around.

Though there's a lot to be said the lack of numbers like braking and G's, at least it isn't like Car and Driver TV. BBC TopGear (Discovery's president was a former BBC Governor I think...) emotes well and looks good. And they're all brutal, too. It was nice to see Discovery pick the show up.

I love it!! I've been watching it when ever it is on.

they have been doing reports on very new cars (early 2005), so they can't be that old.

Tiff and Jeremy clarkson had a falling out of some sort, leading to a dissolution of the former Top Gear show... now Tiff does a show called Fifth Gear while Clarkson does the new revamped Top Gear which hasn't been out as long as Fifth Gear has.

I think Fifth gear has around 10-12 eps a season and beginning this year, 2 seasons a year. Meanwhile, Topgear has a 1 hour long format, and is shown in the time that Fifth Gear isn't.

Personally, I think the fifth gear team is the better one, with Tiff not only been more knowledgable but more personable. Top Gear is a little overdone, but the show is still enjoyable.

Ah yes, I remember catching an episode of Fith Gear in Ireland last year and I was impressed. Hopefully Speed channel will pick it up.

You must be watching 5th gear then.

did anyone see last weeks eposide where they got this ace women race driver to race a Ford Transit van around the Nuremburg in under 10 minutes. she did it in 10.30 first go and 10.13 2ns attempt, absolutely unreal driving for a 2 tonne van.

it is on speed, just on at weird times like 7am or 1pm and is usually preempted by some sorta oval track racing.

they recently did a race, train vs Aston Martin DB9 from their studios to monte carlo, which was cool.

The bobslead vs snowcar was pretty sweet!

Yeah they also race a plane with a Ferrari 612 and a boat with a Mclaren Mercedes SLR later..... its so bad(like the powerglove).

Yeah, Speed's been showing Fifth Gear for months now. Really cool show, and I love that Vicki chick. I saw an episode last week that had yet another one of those Impreza STI vs Lancer Evo faceoffs that never get old (Evo came out slightly ahead), along with a test on how easy it is to roll over a SUV (why anyone would drive those death traps is beyond me).

Man, finally a great show we Europeans get faster than you Us folk :D (Like that DB9 vs TGV is more than a year old - newest comparison is a 4x4 (Panda I think) against a marathon runner. In London rush hour, quite amusing sketch :)

And yes, Top Gear is one of the best automobile shows ever. If not only for the butchering US-cars receive every show. The '05 Mustang massacre was very amusing

I hate this show. They`re all obnoxious, arrogant, unfunny snobs.
Especially the tall fucker. I can`t fucking stand him.

That Atom vs Motorbike from a while back was a good piece by Clarkson. He was bombing down the test track and the wind was trying to rip his face off. :lol

Luv Top Gear....

I saw the Aston DB9 race to monte carlo last week but alas I though the show played on Thursday instead of Wed. so I missed this weeks show :(

I saw a Torrent of this show when I was checking out Porsche stuff. I realized it was a Brit show and I was sad that we in the US didn't get it.

But then Wednesday night, I saw it on my program guide for the Discovery Channel. I was a happy man. I enjoyed seeing the Benz, the Porsche Ferrari race, and the Rolls Royce segments. Great show. I'll be catching it often.

I needed this show SO much. I love fast cars and magazines are just way too lame.
Man those Ferraris are so HOT

I agree with ping. Don't give a flying fuck about cars, but watch this show every week.

The episode where they had to buy a car each for a certain (low) amount and then do various tasks to see which was best was fucking hilarious.
