I am going car shopping next week, and I would be trading in the car I am currently driving. I have the title but it is in my mothers name (she original purchased the car then gave it to me when she stop driving). My question is does she need to be present if I trade in the car?

Last week I donated another car that the titled was not in my name (again it was my mother's old car) and they didn't seem to care as long as I gave them the original title.

Well I used to sell cars, so I might be able to help.

First thing, don't count getting much. If you owe anything, at least et what you owe. Negative equity is a BITCH.

Don't go by Blue Book value... you won't get it. They go by a Black Book.

As for the title situation I'm a bit hazy on this, I think you have to have the title signed over to you and notarized. After that you should be fine.

Good luck, and don't believe the shit when they tell you they have to go talk to their managers. It's just a tactic to get more money out of you. Go in with a hard number and don't back down.

If you feel the urge to walk from it, don't hesitate. They will strong arm you at any oppotunity.

Car is paid off. I am not looking for much at all (Blue Book is only 1.5k), just really want to get rid of it. I would just donate it like I did the other car but I need something to drive for the next few days.

Another question is cash really king? I need 2 vehicles, paying cash, looking at two Cadillac's (STS and Escalade EXT) at around 60k MSRP on each. How much of a deal should I hold out for?

Dealerships HATE cash deals. As they get a percentage back from the finance companies and it helps with their bonuses.

But on the other hand a deal will get done quicker with cash. No muss, no fuss.

Like I said with the title, just go to your local DMV or BMV and get it transferrred over to you. It only costs a couple dollars and prevents your mom from having to go.

They don't really care with cash deals. I don't think you get a better deal. I put down $10,000 cash on my car and they were a bit pissy that they had to get a couple of people to come over to count it out in front of. They only like it when you have an iffy credit rating and won't have to go through the trouble of doing all the "selling" and having you turned down at the deal table.

All of this is good advice. If you try to pay cash, they'll try to convince you to finance the car. Or, they will try to offer less for your trade.

Which trim level of STS and Escalade are you looking at? Do you know the invoice pricing?

Aright, so that's a STS V-8 without AWD and an EXT.

The invoice price for the STS is $43,498. With that group of options, I would be satisfied if I was paying under $54,000 before destination & tax, however since this is a brand-new model you may not be able to come close to that. It never hurts to try, though.

The invoice price for the EXT AWD is $48,802. With the options you chose, I think it would be a good tactic to ask if they will sell the car to you, options and everything, for MSRP.
