Treadmills

Moving into a new place this weekend, got room for a treadmill, want a treadmill, but don't know shit about treadmills.

Any GAFers own one? Any recommendations? Looking to keep it under $1,500, with a long enough platform to accommodate someone 6'2 and long strides for running.

Remember doing some research awhile ago, but I forget what I learned. I think NordicTrack is supposed to be good and I was looking into Peloton, but I think their treadmills got recalled for killing someone and injuring several so u might want to steer clear from them.

Be wary of cheaper ones. The speed may not go high enough, plus keep in mind the sturdiness. Cheaper treaders tend to bounce as you run (think standing on a plank of wood suspended between two bricks etc), which can add to the noise profile. Motor, plus pounding, on a wooden floor can be horrific.

Another suggesting a bike instead, here. Better on your knees and more customizable. Treadmills, even high end expensive ones in gyms, are notorious for having mechanical issues and needing repair.

Amen to that. I bought one once for waaay too much money, and it needed repairs on more than one occasion. A bastard to maintain too. Also, treadmills take up so much room.

I get a much better cardio workout on my bike, as it’s much easier to change resistance settings.

treadmills are way better on your joints than running outside.

if your joints are so bad that you can't use a treadmill, the next best thing is a rower

personally if I were you I would look around on craigslist for a pelaton treadmill. with the recent scare I bet you can snag a good deal and they are high quality

I've been using a livestrong treadmill ever since Nike cut ties with the name so I got a $3000 unit for $750. had it for ~10? or so years, still runs good as new with weekly usage and I've not had to do any maintenance. don't cheap out on a treadmill if you actually plan on using it regularly IMO

Do not get the treadmill, and don't jog for that matter. It will fuck up your joints for old age and is the worst possible type of cardio ever invented. Get a rowing machine.

Didn't know that, then it might be a way to go. For whatever that is holy do not jog outside in a city on a pavement, all those people will need regular medical treatments for joint inflammation in 15-20 years.

Working out at home is a no-go if you ask me, just too many distractions and no time concerns, in theory you can train whenever you want, as long as you want, but exactly because of that you get lazy, because you can always work out later, tomorrow, next time etc. I have never ever seen anyone who bough a treadmill who didn't turned it into a clothes rack weeks/months later, dozens of people and the end effect is always the same. Like it has been already mentioned, put your shoes and go running outside, and leave the phone at home, you'll have a fantastic time this way and you'll actually do the workout and have results out of it.

Another vote for bike. My parents had a treadmill. I used it some. It was a pain. The thing would keep getting off center and dig holes in the plastic part of the frame.

Got myself a bike a couple of months back. It's been pretty good but I've had to give my ass a break. I need to get back on soon.

Looking to buy one myself in a while, first one in Maiden Voyage Maiden Voyage s link looks ideal. I love a good thread mill, the right music Cd and run the duration of it. Nothing like it.

The people putting you off OP either bought one on a whim and never uses it more than a few times or spent a. Load on some feature laden overpriced piece of junk they thought would magically motivate them to an ideal health.

Spoiler alert, walking also fucks your legs up over time, especially if you have every gadget under the sun strapped to you. Look at the amount of morons who get into traffic accidents because they can't spend a moment away from their smart phone. Idiots are idiots. A decent threadmill is adjusted to reduce impact.

Genuinely curious what you pick OP. And I also used to cycle and run a lot. Been a while though which is why I'm so interested in your choice.

If you have money, look into automatic ones. They're built with slats, have no motors and will last longer.
