Tretton on Record: THIS IS KILLZONE GAMEPLAY

Stinkles

IGN G4 vid interview

Now, I was just about ready to say, "Sure, maybe in-game assets," but actual gameplay? As in, a guy playing?

Either he's going to have to eat crow, or he just owned MS and Nintendo super hard-style.

He's the Vice Pres. of Marketing, what the fuck do you expect him to say? It's his job to lie and sell the system.

They should've asked him why didn't he bring a real time demo then.

G4: Ok, pull out a controller and start playing it then.

Tretton: Uh...this is not the game you're looking for...*POOOF*

Wtf? The developer already said it was a "representation" of what they're trying to achieve.

Looks like noone told the PR ape about the interview. :lol

it is probably running at 5 frames per second. It's too early to show playable games, wait for TGS!?

Winner!

While the game may look and play EXACTLY like that - it may be running far too slow for anyone to actually look at it and not laugh at how slow its running. Even some of the X360 stuff shown was running at 15fps and similar. So while I'm not sold that this is 100% exactly like what we're going to get, it is certainly possible that it does exist at non-ready-for-press framerates.

I've asked this several times now...

When is the next TGS!?

End of September. But I think Sony will have a PS3 Japanese re-unveiling event towards the end of the year, they did something similar with PS2.

Saying it's "gameplay" doesn't mean much. It could be using the game engine but a completely different renderer. And the gameplay could be of the very scripted kind ;)

Gamespot are saying sony told them to inform 'everyone' that it is running on PS3 (basically its a techdemo)

I thought we already established it was pre-rendered. The developers themselves said so.
I guess he is just trying to keep the hype train going. Notice he never said 'real-time': he said 'real' (duh) and 'real gameplay', meaning a (pre-rendered) representation of gameplay.

Was Killzone even a good game? I remember all the "Halo Killer" shit but the game got mediocre reviews. Was it held back by the weak hardware or something?

The stealth bits looked very good IMO.

how many killzone threads are we gonna have, jesus

That's my question, too. I mean, it's not like the first one was great by any stretch...maybe above average, but not great.

Screw this shit, stinkles. Just blow 'em away with Halo 3 already.

I just read it on GS. So Sony officially said it was realtime? Wow. Either they're lying or Xbox 360 is even more dead than I thought.

Phil Harison said "All of the games that were shown were either real-time or built to spec." He didn't say which games were real-time or to-spec.

Even if it is real-time it's obvious it's not gameplay. Everything is 100% scripted.

Doesn't seem like something the developer would say :| Link?

It was an ok game, with massive (unrealised) potential. The setting behind the game is awesome.

Really, since HS was rendered in-game but isn't yet at 60fps I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for KillZone. But I'm not a believer yet.

What does it matter if it's scriped or not? You'll still be seeing the same visual calibur when you're actually playing the game on your TV. :|

Yeah, Phil Harrison said it, some SCEA VP said it too. It was built and recorded off a PS3 dev kit. From how I understand it Killzone 2 is still too early in development for any real playability, they were working on the real time video up until a few days before the show, and the only reason it wasn't running on a real dev. kit is that with the whole montage video thing it'd be a technical nightmare to get all those different demos running on a dev. kit.

The IGN interview is pretty much a bait and switch trying to confirm IGN's belief that it wasn't realtime. They ask him if the final game will be like that, he says it will, but he doesn't confirm or deny if it was real time or not.

Honestly though, why do people think this is so damn impressive? I'm sure we've all seen the UE3 PS3 engine, which was made in all of two months. Guerilla had about 5 months, that and they have the whole video chock full of graphical cover up techniques, like a pretty blatant blur filter.

I think we'll see Killzone 2 vid. level games on both PS3 and Xbox 360 within the first year or two, and it'll pale compared to what Epic will ultimately deliver with the UE3 engine fully customized for finished PS3 hardware.

Stinkles, the Ken Starr of Killzonegate.

It did look like there was some manchowder on Tretton's lapel...

For the record, my "agenda" is about the reporting of it, not the fact. I commend Sony for blowing everyone's fucking minds. I watch that vid over and over and still love it.

They should just shut up and shut the masses up with a realtime display of it action and someone controlling it.
