I really want to get this DVD but the only thing standing in my way is the price. I don't normally spend 50 bucks on a single DVD but this looks like it might be worth it. Has anyone seen this, or better yet, own it? Is it any good? $50 good? I'll probably end up getting it regardless but I'd like to read anyone's opinions on the film.

They showed this on Channel 4 in the UK quite a while back. It was a really interesting series, and done in a very watchable way.

I didn't know it was on DVD, I might pick it up actually.

I watched it about a week ago for the first time and really enjoyed it. The range of people they interview is quite impressive...

I'm not sure if it's $50 good, because this was a copy bought with extra money at work...

It ends with Windows 3.1...

Funny, intelligent... that's all I can say...

Thanks for the impressions. 3.1 eh? So that's like what, '93? I wish it was a little more up to date but it's the 70's and 80's computer history I'm mostly interested in anyway so I doubt it'll bother me.

This is good too

Yeah I really like that one. I have it on tape but since I rarely use VHS anymore and the tape quality is so completely shitty, I decided to get the DVD version. Infact it was when I was placing my pre-order for the DVD of Pirates that I started looking into Triumph of the Nerds.

Both of those are excellent. It's been so long since I've seen them that I had forgotten they existed. Gotta pick them up soon.

It's pretty good especially for the exclusive Jobs and Balmer interviews, although ultimately I thought "Pirates of Silicon Valley" was more entertaining. It comes out on DVD the end of August.

But if you really want to get Triumph of the Nerds, I have one word: Netflix.

Triumph of the Nerds is great. Really interesting for anyone who has an interest in computer history. Lots of great stories and background.

A few years after this came out, there was a follow up called Nerds 2.0 that focused more on recent history, including the rise of the Internet. It wasn't as compelling but it was still good and fun to watch.

Pirates of Silicon Valley was good too, but of the three I've mentioned, Triumph of the Nerds is the best in my opinion.

HOLY SHIT

I've been waiting forever for this to come to DVD! Thanks!

Also, Pirates Of Silicon Valley comes to DVD next month! I think!

[edit] HOLY SHIT

I didn't know it was released in 2002!

What a jackass I am! All this time I thought it wasn't out! Oh, shit!

I ordered this from Caiman's for 33 bucks, and while it's still expensive for a one disc DVD with no extras it's better than $50. They shipped it out this morning so I should be getting sometime later this week.

Can't wait to watch this.

All of these were entertaining, but the Pirates one was quite embellished at parts. Still fun to watch though.

I don't ever remember Steve Jobs being that good looking.
For what it's worth:

One thing I really love about "Pirates of Silicon Valley" is how much the actors resemble their parts. Even the guy who plays Balmer is pretty spot on.
