"The response and recovery effort probably has never been seen for something like this," Trump said. "This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water."

He added that Puerto Rico will have to rebuild its infrastructure from "scratch."

"The electrical grid and other infrastructure were already in very, very poor shape, they were at their life's end prior to the hurricanes, and now virtually everything has been wiped out," Trump said. "We're literally starting from scratch."

Trump said the federal government will work with Puerto Rico to figure out how to fund the rebuilding effort and "what we will do with the tremendous amount of existing debt already on the island."

Uh huh

This whole thing makes me so angry. This has been a shitshow of aid and everyone involved from Trump's administration should be ashamed of their negligence.

Maybe Trump, having realized he has a chronic lying problem, has resolved to deal with it by stating only completely objective and nearly inarguable facts from now on.

I bet his briefing that morning included a map of Puerto Rico... and his mind processed it like "an island, water, big water, ocean".

Even if he personally is a completely callous individual, even if his administration is full of selfish and thoughtless fools, you would think that someone, somewhere in that building, understands the value of at least appearing to have some compassion instead of talking only about debts at this time.

What does he mean 'we' are rebuilding from scratch? WTF is he doing to be included in that.

He gets to say we. He's the president of the country (shudders) and its common to refer to it was 'we'.

Now, I will pretty much disagree with everything else out of his big dumb face, so Im not trying to fight you very much on this!

Are we sure he's not mentally disabled? He speaks like a 5th grader doing a presentation on Puerto Rico who's just winging it.

So is this a blunder comparable to Katrina?

Probably worse just for the fact that he ACTIVELY impaired recovery by not waiving the Jones Act immediately (said that the US shipping industry didn't want it waived)...as was done for Harvey and Irma victims in Texas and Florida.

So is this a blunder comparable to Katrina?
Katrina was very bad but Maria was worse. New Orleans wasn't surrounded by the bigly water that Porto Enrique is surrounded by. Portobello Rico is in worse shape then it's ever been but we're going to make it great again and the cleanup will be something that the world has never seen before and the people of that foreign country are gonna be very thankful to us. Very thankful.
