Twitter & iPhone

Twitter says my device doesn't support SMS texts. Which basically defeats the entire purpose of Twittttttering. I find this hard to believe since I'm constantly texting.... Anyone with a 3G iPhone use Twitter and receive mobile twittters? Am I doing something wrong?

Holla back.

Note: We currently don't support sending SMSes to this number. You may still verify your phone and update Twitter, but we'll never send you a message.

WTF?

Is this a thread of things that go well together?

Why are you using Twitter with SMS if you have an iPhone? Get TwitterFon and move on.

For the iPhone you don't use twitter like you do with other phones.

You download a twitter application from the App Store. I use the 'standard' twitterrific, but there are ones with more functionality available. It's basically the same thing, just a little more elegant and more features.

are you in canada?

twitter has disabled SMS updates for Canadian phones

http://status.twitter.com/post/61703653/canadian-sms-service

Unexpected changes in our billing have forced us into a difficult situation with our Canadian SMS service. We can’t afford to support this service given our current arrangement with our providers (where costs have been doubling for the past several months.) As a result, effective today we are no longer delivering outbound SMS over our Canadian shortcode (21212).

The ability to update Twitter over SMS will still be supported over 21212. But we know that this is only part of the experience and we want to make Twitter work in the way folks want … regardless of where they live.

There is a realistic, scalable SMS solution for Canada (and the rest of the world.) We’re working on that and will post more details on the Twitter blog as we make progress.

I actually prefer tweetsville over tweetie for a couple reasons.

1. I can click on web links directly from the list view without having to select the tweet, then click the link

2. I can modify the bottom tab bar to the items I want.

People on Twitterific or Tweetme, I strongly recommend you give TwitterFon a shot. I far prefer it myself.
I just checked my iPhone because I figured I was using something else. TwitterFon is functional, but that's about it. It lacks a lot of snazz, but considering how a lot of iPhone apps are, that's probably for the best.
