Two Leaked PS3 Digital Imports (Japanese) From MonkeyPaw

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

MonkeyPaw Games plans on bringing Japanese games to the West. More specifically, Blockids and Magical Drop F to North American PlayStation 3s. The ESRB beat MonkeyPaw to the punch and leaked both titles before the upstart publisher could announce them.

Magical Drop F is Magical Drop with a quest mode. Blockids, an Arkanoid style game in 3D, is an interesting pick since it was published in North America already. Natsume brought it here back in 2003. Perhaps, MonkeyPaw Games grabbed the rights to the English version? I wonder if they translated the quest mode too since that was one of the defining features of Magical Drop F.

Since ESRB ratings are popping up we should find out soon enough.

Magical Drop F looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M72TDdekPlw
Blockids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRn_FQBQ3E4

I'll also be getting Magical Drop F.

Although I've been wondering if this is a direct port, a semi-enhanced port, or a fully-enhanced remake.

So these are just PS1 games for PSN, right? Or ports?

Looks like non-PS1 PSN games (because basically, PS1 games are rated for PSP and PS3), not sure if they are ports or remakes, although leaning on ports.

Did these 2 games get localized (PS1 versions that is)?

Also side bit: Blockids is by Natsume and Magical Drop F is by Data East Arcade.

Odd.

PSP am cry.

Also, it's SCEA who publishes the PSone rereleases in ESRB.

"Retro games with today's graphics & intensity"

The president of Monkey Paw is John Greiner, ex-Hudson. In the banner of the site there is some games (Magical Drop F included). Detective GAF can identify the rest of the games.

Is that a shmup I see? :o

I am completely stoked for Magical Drop F and will be buying it day one. Blockids I'm not nearly as sold on, but my deep love of Breakout/Arkanoid type games will probably cause me to break down and pick it up. Either way, I'm glad to see MonkeyPaw Games taking a chance on these sorts of games.

One is Cho Aniki (the one with the long pony tail).

I'm very excited to hear about this. I can't wait to see what they bring out.

I really love the letter on the front page of the site. Sounds like they have a real passion to bring over obscure Japanese games. That's pretty fantastic. Count me in.

Fnordhchan's images are much lighter and thus easier to see than mine.

I don't know about that, but hopefully having both sets handy will help folks puzzle out the games being shown. Also, I think you're dead on with Tall Infinity.

If anyone wants to continue to solve the mystery, check out this thread for a list of likely candidates.

This is by no means the definitive list of Japanese PS1 games, but it contains a decent portion of what has already been released on the Japanese PSN, which means these games have a greater shot of being put on the NA PSN.

The two shooters I can make out are Shienryu(four of the screenshots are from the same game) and Sonic Wings Special(look for the tiny ship with the huge laser).

Don't know much about this dude but he has my 100% support.

My interpretations so far:

Strangely enough, Cho Aniki has been localized already for the PSP by Aksys... Unless they're planning on releasing this for the PS3 via PSN.

I'd prefer a console release, so that's just fine for me. If they had some sort of link up it would make it seem less redundant though. (In regards to Cho Aniki)

Can anyone translate this?

Cave on my PS3? Do want.

:(

I want Progear and Dodonpachi on my PS3. I hope MonkeyPaw picks them up.

Oh, so I guess we've only deciphered Tall Infinity, Shienryu, and Cho Aniki (Zero?).

I'm guessing one of them is JRPG...

I'm liking where this is going. Shame that they're not teaming up with Gaijinworks (who have a similar goal) but if this results in more previously JPN games getting released, then this can only be a good thing!

I hope that their PS1 re-releases are just straight PS1 Classics ports without them messing with the gameplay. Save the remakes for PSN/XBLA/Wiiware/retail!

Goemon and Fire Emblem please!
