U2 Extend Vertigo Tour
Irish rockers will return to the U.S. in the fall

U2 will launch the second North American leg of their international Vertigo tour, in support of their multi-platinum How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb album, September 12th in Toronto.

Regarded as one of the most anticipated tours of the year, the trek has gotten off to a rough start. The first leg was scheduled to begin March 1st in Miami, but was postponed to March 28th in San Diego due to family illness. Later, fans were angered when an Internet pre-sale left more than 100,000 U2 Web-site members without tickets despite paying forty dollars to have first shot at the seats.

"There was a mess-up with the way tickets were distributed," acknowledged drummer Larry Mullen Jr. in a posting on U2.com. "Some of it was beyond our control, but some of it wasn't." Mullen Jr. also took the opportunity to apologize to fans over the ticket snafu during U2's Grammy acceptance speech for Best Rock Performance By a Rock Duo or Group for the "Vertigo" single.

Southern garage rockers Kings of Leon will serve as the opening act on the tour's initial North American leg, which wraps up in Boston in late May. A thirty-stadium European stint will then launch on June 10th in Brussels before the band returns to the U.S. for the fall.

Here's some info for the Toronto gigs. Tickets officially go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster, 416-870-8000. General admission floor tickets are $50.75, with a limit of two per person. Seats range from $50.75 to $176.50. Buyers are limited to eight per purchase.

There's talk of U2 adding a third date in Toronto, which wouldn't surprise me since they've always done incredibly well here.

Sweet. Now our awfully-named radio station, BobFM, will have to change its name into an even worse name (PaulFM in honor of our "honorable" PM) due to a silly bet.

I can reach the Buffalo arena if I can get tickets, but should I try for Toronto instead? Never been to the Air Canada Center.

December 10th in Cleveland for me too. And our presale is but one week away :)

No kidding, just one week? I am in Cincinnati so I won't be there. Shit, I'm getting married next week, I'm not going to have the $$$ for the pre-sale.

Anyone got a U2.com membership code I could use to get the tickets earlier than Saturday? :D

Wow. I'd like to go, but I don't feel like being raped in order to get decent seats

That's why i'm going to buy the General Admission tickets : $49.50 and you'll be the closer to the stage than with any other of the tickets. When I got GA tickets for the Elevation Tour I was so close I could pat Bono on the back of his jacket when he passed by me :)

Heh, I think Buffalo might be easier to get tickets for. I think the ACC is reputed to be a pretty good concert arena, and there's a lot of stuff you can see downtown before the show (like people wielding butcher knives and people in rental vans setting themselves on fire...ahem). Catching U2 would be a nice excuse to check out the building.

And yeah, I'll probably get general seats as well...as long as I get there early enough I've got a half decent shot of being pretty close to the band for a fifty spot, which would be pretty neat.
